Social Phobia (social anxiety disorder)

with Hypnotherapy

"I wonder what they're thinking about me, they don't like me.They don't like what I'm doing."

"After one session with Luke, I can honestly say my life is totally different. My outlook, my attitude, my overall persona is now much more relaxed and at peace. I sleep better, I'm more motivated and in control of my emotions. I no longer let negative thoughts control how I feel. Actually, I don't even have many negative thoughts anymore. I'm too busy for that. Just a few weeks ago I was stuck indoors feeling weary, negative and out of control. 3 weeks later and I am a changed man. Steve P - Ely

At Cambridge Hypnotherapy, we understand that life is very difficult for people with social phobia. They feel they don't fit in with everyone else, or that perhaps there's something wrong with them. When you feel like this, you may decide it's easier to stay away - to avoid all contact with people in social situations whenever possible.

If this sounds like you, take heart. We have helped many people in this situation, and believe we can help you too. All you need is the desire to change.

This condition is known by a number of names, Social Phobia and Fear of Being Evaluated Negatively in Social Situations being the most common. It can cause real misery, and have a significant impact on the quality of your life.

It can cause panic attacks, blushing, profuse sweating and trembling. It may result in nausea, difficulty talking, an overall feeling of dread, stomach discomfort or irregular heartbeat. It can also isolate people from loved ones and business associates.

Social Phobia (social anxiety disorder) is defined as the fear (anxiety) of being judged, criticized, and evaluated by other people.

This fear (anxiety) is often recognized as being irrational by the individual involved, but nevertheless the fear of judgment persists. People who have Social Phobia (Social Anxiety Disorder) find all sorts of everyday situations extremely difficult; being introduced to other people.......
("I wonder what they're thinking about me; I'll bet they don't like me"),
attracting or being the center of attention, being watched while doing something.......
("They don't like what I'm doing; I must be making a fool of myself.") They feel insecure and self-conscious in most public settings.

The visible symptoms of distress heighten the fear of disapproval, and the symptoms themselves can become an additional focus of fear. This creates a vicious cycle: the more the sufferer worries about displaying the symptoms, the greater the chance of developing them. Social phobia often runs in families and may be accompanied by depression or alcohol dependence.
