Hypnotherapy and memory recall – with Cambridge Hypnotherapy

Recently I had a client approach me to say that he had changed his password to his works computer due to his daughter accessing it and playing childrens games and generally doing the things that young children do. The only problem that he had was that he remembered sitting at his computer, entering his old password, then looking out of the window whilst thinking about a new password, and then…… BLANK! Nothing… and he now had no access to his computer and without remembering the password was facing up having to take his computer in and having it rebuilt. The financial cost of this was irrelevant, however the hassle, time and delay to his work would cost him much more than money could equate to! He wondered whether hypnotherapy and memory went together or not?

As a Hypnotherapist in Cambridge, I believe that every event and moment of our lives is stored inside our minds. We may not have conscious access to these things, but they’re there! Hypnosis has been used many times in the past within criminal cases, where victims of crimes have developed a mental block about an event. The unconscious mind is  repressing these thoughts and memories due to them being painful, emotional, or generally of no use to them there and then!

With my client, there was no emotional pain that his mind was protecting from, and if anything it was causing stress and pain due ot the consequences he was starting to face.

Lose weight with Hypnotherapy? Let’s change your mindset about food and watch that happen anyway!!!

2013 is upon us, and no doubt 1000’s of people out there are now starting to plan their new healthy eating diets and joining up with their local gyms in order to lose weight, as this year they’re sure things will be different…..

I admire their initial motivation, and their positive approach to weight loss is wonderful to see, but I really do think that these people are approaching losing weight COMPLETELY wrong. The reason I think this is simple….. FOOD is not the problem, THEY are!! As they think about not eating that rich chocolate cake that’s in the fridge, or those tins of chocolates left over after Christmas, or even all those other goodies they have in the cupboard, one thing is for certain…. they are thinking about food!! Quite simply whatever you focus on you will get, even if you are telling yourself not to do it.

You can try this yourself pretty simply by doing the following… First think about not eating chocolate and notice what happens. I’m sure you are already thinking about the chocolate that you want to not eat, and how good it tastes when you ate it before. Now go ahead and think about eating a nice juicy orange, and notice the pictures you create in your mind. Completely different pictures right? However, when you look at it both outcomes are the same, only one is focusing on what you want to not do, and the other on what you do want to do. Compare this to a Sat Nav…. how often would you ever put in where you don’t want to go to? If you did put in where you wanted to not go to, it would end up taking you there, not good!

Our approach to helping  you lose weight is very straightforward and easy. We simply help you change what food means to you, and start to get your mind focusing on what you do want to eat, how much you want to exercise, and what you want to look like, not what you don’t want to look like.

The Gastric Hypnoband….. real or not???

‘The Hypno-Band’ and Weight Loss

I have had a couple of therapists contact me recently to ask me of my thoughts as to ‘The Hypno-Band’. There has been much publicity recently over this system that has been designed to aid clients weight loss within a hypnosis session (or 5) and I thought I’d take some time to share my thoughts on the process and its effectiveness.

So what is it? Well, simply put ‘The Hypno-Band’ is a process whereby the therapist will place their client into a state of hypnosis, and then take their mind on a journey through the actual process of Gastric Band surgery. The hoped for result is that the clients mind will fully accept the process and therefore the following result of having a smaller stomach and eating capacity. That’s it!

So what are my thoughts? Well Quite simply, unless you are the most susceptible person around, I don’t think that for one second you will leave a room believing you have just had ACTUAL surgery and that you are now the proud owner of a Gastric Band, it’s just not going to happen! Yes, the idea of visualising a smaller stomach can allow people to eat less, but surely this can be done without the whole surgery aspect? Does it really take 5 sessions? Well the answer is if you use ‘The Hypno-Band’ probably yes. Does it need to? NO!!! We at Cambridge Hypnotherapy work with clients for no more than 3 sessions.

So how do we differ? We use advanced levels of NLP, TimeLine Therapy and Hypnosis to make quick lasting change! We use NLP to change how your mind perceives food and exercise. If instead of meaning comfort, your unconscious mind saw that the levels of food you were eating made you feel uncomfortable, then it’s not going to lead you to that unhealthy cupboard in your kitchen. If instead of trying to relieve you from that stressful day, your mind saw that your levels of stress were skyrocketing due to still being overweight, again it will not lead you to that cupboard. We also use Hypnosis to allow your mind to find everything that you need from new beliefs, resources and behaviours so that when you walk out of our room, you feel confident and motivated to succeed in your goal and find it easy to just watch the weight fall off!
