Little steps to a full life of achievement

We’ve noticed lately that so many people when trying to either reach a goal or make changes in their life, with the best of intentions, go about it in a way that almost always ends up in failure!

What a great shame when we see what we want in life, read about it and dream of having it only to be another “I wish” or even worse “If only I’d persisted a little more”

There’s a sure fire way to stop this happening and it’s the same process we teach my clients here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy when they leave to really test our work together.

Before we get to this small but powerful and successful way let’s just take a moment to set the scene for both scenarios.

Achieving your goals ~ We are told in many books and such things as the Law of Attraction etc. to set our goals big and I mean BIG! And I agree whole heartily in this too. We live in our ‘adult Heads’ all day and are prepared to settle for something less than we deserve.

However, if we were to adopt a child’s imagination where anything and everything is possible we dream both Big and also with total freedom and acceptance -That’s the real magic of a dream!! When we do this we can literally feel what it will be like to achieve the dream that’s now a goal.

We can then, if we know the steps, can now work backwards, That’s right backwards, and work out what needs to happen just before achieving our goal and then the step before that and then the step before that and then….. well you get the picture.

But if we don’t know the steps does that mean the goal is unachievable? ~ absolutely

~ NOT!

But so many think so, which means they don’t even begin or think of the largest first step and get scared or have a feeling of failure and give up, re-enforcing their old negative beliefs around failure and not being good enough and any other number of limiting negative beliefs you can think of now.

Testing our change work ~ We’ve noticed and been told of great change work being done in the office but in testing in the real world the client either picked a test way too big for a first test or got so anxious of the same sort of extreme thing to do they just gave up and again reinforced their previous old belief that was so nearly a thing of the past and just needed a gentle push away.

The PROCESS ~

In the paragraph above a mentioned ‘just a gentle push away’ and that’s the essence of the process. Being GENTLE with ourselves.

In both achieving our goals, which we now will call outcomes, and ratifying consciously the great changes you made in a therapy session the process is exactly the same and it is sooooooooo simple!!

In imagining the biggest outcome we desire we get to know what that will feel like when we get it – so simply hold that feeling.

Following our session my clients know what the feeling is they will have to succeed being their true selves so they are simple asked to remember and hold that feeling.

Then………

As you think of what to do, either towards your outcome or test of the change work, you simply hold that feeling and think or ask yourself for the smallest step towards the outcome you can make and still have this feeling and then just do it.

If you think of a step and that feeling is less intense or disappears it just means the step is too big, that’s all! So simply return to that feeling you will feel and think or ask for a smaller step that still retains that feeling for you and do that instead.

You will notice at first the steps will be minute and that’s absolutely correct but the thing is you will soon be leaping forward and always with that feeling which will lead you to your outcome and more.

Learn How to be happy with Cambridge Hypnotherapy

We (Luke, Paul & Joseph AKA Cambridge Hypnotherapy) have been helping clients, people just like you, to change the way you feel ~ from something uncomfortable and in some cases really bad to ways they enjoy. Some even say thier old self but even better!!

Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy and NLP are great ways to change your state, the way you feel. The thing is that we use the natural ways we do this but in a good way. Too often we can be ok and in a moment something happens which we’re not consciously aware of and our mood (state) changes. Well if this can happen in a negative way the good news is we can use the same process to go from negative to positive feelings. Before you do that…………………

Have you ever seen lists of how to be this or do that or improve this in your life?

Well, I’ve just spent a little time on the internet reading such things as…101 ways to be happy, 40 ways to be happy 6 ways to be happy and the list went on and on!

Wow and the thing is whilst being right in a way that is giving advice of where and how to find happiness in the world I got the impression they were all forgetting one thing.

One thing Paul what’s that?
The one thing that appeared to be missing was to me the most important ~ shall I tell you now or later?
Well all these ways we telling people to do this and do that to experience happiness (Oh by the way this means I’ll tell you later) Yes you can go do these things but if you’re not feeling happy right now will you I doubt it. If you’re feeling low, down or depressed I know you won’t because it’s hard to imagine taking all that effort.

Now you may be thinking right now where’s this going? If all these articles are missing something what is it?

Now here’s the thing
You can go anywhere and everywhere to try to find happiness but the thing is you will only find it in one place. Looking for it outside isn’t where it is.

Where is happiness? True happiness?
It’s with you all the time, it’s in you and has been since you were created! And when you feel it on the inside, everything on the outside changes and so does everyone around you. It’s infectious the best virus in the world. Here’s a quick example of that virus ~ A simple happy smile cannot not make someone smile too and every smile as happy feelings. It’s that simple to start.

If you want to go further you may want to do this. (you will have to read this first and remember what to do)
• Close your eyes
• Breathe gently and ask inside with your inner voice “What’s made me feel happy in the past, one specific time?” and you will remember a time in your mind.
• Jump back into that memory, into your body in that memory and see what you saw and hear what you heard and FEEL the FEELINGS NOW.
• Double the feeling and double them again and smile on the inside and outside too.
• Do this again a couple of times maybe with a different memory and always finish with a smile on the most intense happy feelings.

Now to test:
Clear you mind and think of anything different your phone number backwards for example
Then
SMILE ~ Smile just like you did and…………………………………
Notice how you feel now.

Unfortunately you are now anchored in (something we teach in our NLP trainings)
Every time you smile you’re going to feel this intense happy feeling (what a shame) and you may just create happy feelings in everyone you smile at too.

How to get results in 2-3 sessions with Cambridge Hypnotherapy

Joseph and I (Paul) have just finished 2 back to back 8 day intensive trainings in both Cambridge & Bournemouth,  teaching NLP, Time Line Therapy™ and Real Hypnosis. For those that don’t know why anyone would want to learn these skills well there’s generally three reasons.

1 For Personal development

2 To thrive in business

3 To become a therapist and help others

The fact is, generally our participants get all three in abundance

It was great to see everyone pass with flying colours and get their certification as Practitioners in NLP, Time Line Therapy™ and as a Master Hypnotist.

The thing I enjoyed most was to firstly watch the delegates sit quietly on that very first morning of the training, probably thinking “what have I done?” to see them grow in confidence and ability far beyond their dreams.

Secondly to have them fully take on board that the things that clients come in with, of the things they themselves wanted to change were not the problem.

What do I mean?

Well Here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy both Luke and I know that the presenting problem is very rarely the problem. Like the metaphor of the weed it’s only a leaf and if you cut it out the weed will only continue to grow more leaves or problems in your life.

And this is where I think we excel better than most therapists because we take time to find the root cause of our client’s issues and then and only then work on that. When the ‘root’ cause disappears then all the presenting problems disappear.

That’s how we literally only require 2-3 sessions to assist our clients to get the change they want in their life and a whole lot more!. In fact you could probably count the clients that needed more than three sessions on the fingers of one hand.

What we don’t tell is what we do at our Complimentary initial consultation and between the sessions that really makes the difference or the processes that we use and have developed ~ that’s our secret of success with clients.

Sleep Disorders and Hypnotherapy

Cambridge Hypnotherapy for Sleep Disorders

Recently we have had a trend of enquiries at Cambridge Hypnotherapy for sleep disorders from potential clients. The term sleep disorders can mean anything from not being able to get to sleep, constantly waking up due to a light level of sleep, and all the way to people who sleep too much and are constantly tired!

Hypnotherapy for sleep issues is a a great way to make a dramatic and easy change. When you think about it, sleep is 100% controlled by our unconscious mind, and I think we’ve all experienced who hard this makes it to change on a conscious level at times when we’ve been desperate to sleep, but the more you try the more awake you seem to find yourself!

Unfortunately, when it comes to sleep part of our mind (the unconscious) may deem sleep as being wasted time, and if you have an important meeting or presentation the next day then if you spend all night sleeping that means you have less time to spend preparing, right? And if you spent all night preparing your speech etc then you would be able to perform to the very best of your ability the next day, right? WRONG! We can use advance levels of NLP and Hypnosis to allow your mind to learn that even though it makes sense on paper, if you spend all night awake you will undoubtedly be over tired the next day and therefore perform way below par!

We will all have slept on a problem before, and when we do it always seems to feel different the next day. This is because even when you are asleep your mind can continue to process information and this is what we will allow your mind to learn. You will find yourself falling asleep quickly and easily without any sort of anxiety about what could happen and this will be a life long lasting change.

Hypnosis for fear of flying – Cambridge Hypnotherapy for phobias

Recently I read an article in the national newspapers highlighting a story about a young boy of 12 years old who had developed a phobia of flying and now been stranded in the Middle East for more than one year. Eventually, with the aid of Hypnotherapy, he managed to overcome his fear and fly back with his Father to meet up with his Mother and Sister who had already returned to the UK.

Fear of flying is one of the more common phobias that we work with here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy, however we have worked with pretty much any phobia that you can think of including fear of spiders, fear of heights, fear of needles, fear of dogs, fear of driving and even the fear of shirt buttons among many many more.

The Father in this particular case thought that his Sons phobia had been bought on by an ear infection that bought with it terrible pain and discomfort, and this type of situation is very common. Quite often the phobia is not actually caused by anything bad happening with that particular thing, such as flying issues, but more so by something else which makes it simply a horrible experience, such as the ear infection. The next time that individual gets ready to do that thing again, their unconscious mind remembers what happened last time and how emotionally unpleasant it was, thus creating so much fear that they simply don’t go ahead with doing it! If you don’t do it, it can’t be horrible, right?…. WRONG!!!! By not doing what we want to enjoy doing, it feels pretty horrible in itself!

So how long does it take to let go of a phobia? Well certainly not 12 months! Once someone has decided that the time is right t0 let go of it, it takes no more than 3 sessions. Many of our clients actually achieve their results in less than this!

Stoptober….. or StopForever with Cambridge Hypnotherapy to stop smoking

So once again Stoptober is here, and the government are trying to push helping smokers become a non smoker for 28 days. Although this is obviously a great initiative, I do find it flawed in many aspects!

Firstly, why stop for 28 days? Why not stop smoking FOREVER? If people stop smoking for 28 days they are apparently 5 times more likely to stop smoking permanantly. I would counter that with 100% of those who do stop forever, actually have stopped forever? Strange, eh 😉

The problem I have with setting a 28 day target, is that for many people they are instantly counting down to when they can have that lovely cigarette again, and that is all that goes around in their mind. Every day they get closer to that 28th day, their desire for it gets bigger and bigger. Similar to people who go on a crash diet for a holiday or a wedding, as soon as its over their gorge on takeaways and chocolate and snacks, as those ‘treats’ have recently been forbidden. When Christmas is coming, we all get more and more excited about it as the day nears, and unfortunately I do find Stoptober can create this sort of excitement about smoking again, not for everyone mind, but for a large portion of people that do it.

So what happens when you decide to be a non smoker forever? Well your aim has instantly shifted to remaining a non smoker, not to when you can smoke again. I’ve now been a Hypnotherapist in Cambridge for over 6 years. My background has always been Sport and Psychology, going all the way back to when I was at College and studied the 2 subjects at A-Level. Luckily, with the P.E syllabus there was a section on Sports Psychology, and also within the Psychology Syllabus there was a section on Sports Psychology.

Having left College, I decided to train and become qualified as a Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer having trained in a gym from the age of 16. I became fascinated with how some people could motivate themselves to train on their own, yet others needed someone else to push them. There is also the strange way that people can be very motivated to train on January, yet come April they rarely visit  the gym at all!

The only problem I had with working a gym was job satisfaction. Yes I was helping people become fitter, but I personally was not overly enjoying going to work every day and knew something needed to change.

As it happened my brother and father were about to run a Practitioner course, training people to become a qualified practitioner of NLP, TimeLine Therapy and Hypnosis so I jumped at the chance of enrolling and taking part. Something just clicked during the course, and I realised that this was something that would allow me to help others in a much more satisfying way.

In the following days after successfully completing the course, I saw my first client at Cambridge Hypnotherapy, and have been a full time Hypnotherapist in Cambridge ever since.
