Child abuse and how it affects victims in the long term – Cambridge Hypnotherapy

Wednesday, June 26th, 2013

Over the past 12 months there have countless cases of child abuse reported by the media focusing on high profile names and famous personalities. These cases go back years and years, which has made us think about how long the victims have been holding on to their traumatic memories for and how their lives would have different if they had dealt with them at the time.

At Cambridge Hypnotherapy, we regularly work with clients who have been abused physically, sexually or emotionally, and in the majority of cases all 3! Typically they talk about how they occasionally wake up because of a nightmare, or if they hear about a similar situation in the news or watch something similar on a TV program then all of their old memories come flooding back into their mind. The vast majority of these clients also have something else in common, which is that they feel like there is something wrong with them and that they have a huge lack in self worth, because why were they treated like this… what was wrong with them?

Years and years of feeling like this has a huge effect on peoples lives and can often be diagnosed by the medical world as Depression. They may have started to develop an unhealthy relationship with alcohol as a way to escape these thoughts. As a youngster they may have found it hard to meet people as trusting people had become very hard to do, and as they grow up they find it safer and easier to spend time on their own rather than meet others, which has a knock on effect to relationships not only with friends, but romantically too. More often than not they also have not followed their chosen career path, rather chosen a safe, easy career where they can’t suffer any more trauma or upset.

The majority of clients that we work with reporting this type of situation are typically aged 40 years and above, therefore they have suffered with these emotions and problems for over 25 years of their lives, and thinking like this also makes them feel guilty and regretful for not dealing with it sooner! They dream about how their lives could really have been.

We can help them disconnect form those memories. Using advanced levels of NLP, Hypnosis and Time Line Therapy, we allow their unconscious mind to simply go back into their past, and learn from it. The learn every single learning from every possible unconscious memory that once learned and preserved, will allow them to no longer experience any emotion at the thought of it. The memory will still be there, but there will a nothingness kind of feeling about it.

If you have suffered any kind of trauma in your past that is still bothering you to this day, please feel free to contact us here for a FREE initial consultation to find out just how easy it can be to change you life in only 2-3 sessions, or you can call us on 01223 720 120.

Yo-Yo Dieting? ~ Cambridge Hyponotherapy’s answer

Thursday, January 24th, 2013

SO what is it about the Yo-yo effect of dieting?

Why do so many people go on a diet and crash only to find they become heavier than they started and more saddened and unmotivated?

Why do some people fall off the healthy eating and exercise regime and never get to their weight and shape they dream of and long for?

There’s probably one answer to all those at the heart, with a few side issues tagged along.

When we set our new weight goal how many know that the new you will be a different person than the old in so many ways?

Very few is the answer. They seem to think when we reach the goal we can live like we did before. Some even think they can live like they did before during this transition.

Guess what? It will never happen!

The old adage of ‘do what you did before = get what you got before’ is there for a reason.

SO how can we make this change with ease?

Firstly if we understand we will be a different person then we need to let go of the underlying beliefs towards food and exercise that have underpinned the old you, when you do this the changes become exciting and natural and not ‘a regime’ or a hardship or a sacrifice.

Yes we know that this to the conscious and intellectual way of thinking makes complete sense, doing this without knowing how is almost impossible. That’s where someone like us comes in to play, because we do this part for a living ~ it’s second nature to us, it’s what we’re trained to do.

You don’t need fad diets, fad hypno bandy thingies (we’ve written about those before!) simply letting go of negative beliefs and old emotional attachments to food etc with a little tweak to our motivation strategy and away you go.

If for those who need company or assistance after that then you may consider:

  • A personal trainer to start you off gradually where you will see and feel quick improvements
  • A nutritionist to help you prepare your healthy eating life
  • Join one of the diet clubs because now you can with confidence of finishing where you want to be.
  • Get a couple of friends along and plan your own workouts
  • Find out about new and exotic foods that tantalize you taste buds and become a food connoisseur where you savor the taste not the quantity.
  • Plus any other wonderful pursuits your new you can explore….Hmmmmm.

There you go that should be enough to get you thinking in the right way.

We’re here to help and initially it only costs you 20 minutes of your time ~ no money involved at all to come a speak with us an learn how we can help you get that new you (remember the old one got you the way you are now) and keep it.

Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy in Cambridge ~ can I be hypnotised?

Wednesday, November 14th, 2012

We here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy always work with the intention our clients take full responsibility over their issues and also be responsible for their change and success. We (Luke, Joseph & myself) are purely the facilitators of that change ~ we have just developed processes and ways to use Hypnosis and NLP etc that enable our clients to change quickly and easily.

We take responsibility for being able to facilitate the change and on the extremely rare occasions our clients are unable to make the change they desire it is us not being able to help them not that they are “unhypnotizable” (if that’s actually a word) or able to make the change.

It’s when we hear of clients being told by other therapists that it’s they who are a bad client, cannot be hypnotized we shudder in disbelief.

Here’s an exert of a recent email we received:

“I did see a hypnotherapist a few years back to help me with my depression, she tried to take me back to a place in my childhood where she believed everything changed, after three sessions she told me that I was not able to be hypnotised and it was probably because whatever it was was too hard for even my subconscious to bring up, Im not convinced anything really bad happened to me as a child”

Needless to say we do not work in any, shape or form work like that or speak to our clients in such a way

here is part of our reply:

“As for your previous work, we work in a COMPLETELY different approach and
don’t believe everything goes back to childhood. It sounds very much like an
approach which personally we don’t agree with.

We, unlike many, Specialise in Brief Therapy and Lasting Change. With our
passion using NLP, Time Line Therapy, together with Hypnosis we assist in
helping people who really want to change in a comfortable way.

It is difficult to guess the number of sessions you may need, we believe
this should always remain your choice and the fewer the better is our belief
(normally 2-3 sessions). Many clients have achieved their goals even quicker!
We can explain all at an initial consultation.”

We believe (and also teach in our Trainings) that every client is unique and has all the resources they need to make the change they desire.

We also believe we are probably the best at facilitating quick, easy, comfortable and lasting change.

Chasing Shadows and healing them.

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

I’ve been reading an interesting book about dealing with Shadows ~ those within us.

It has an interesting take on using the energies of these internal shadows, when
they reveal themselves to us, to produce something positive. Put the energy
into things we enjoy and especially those of a creative nature. I know this has
worked tremendously well for the writer of this book.

Sometimes these negative feelings can be so overwhelming and when coupled with a negative
belief can be dis-empowering leading to anxiety at best and depression .

Whilst I love the authors way of using this energy
I also think that with a little skill (things we have developed here at
Cambridge Hypnotherapy can get this part (that particular shadow) of our
unconscious mind to work with us and use its energy at an unconscious level to
produce fantastic results for us.

In this way we can never be overwhelmed by the negative feelings. It’s really a
matter of understanding every behaviour has a positive intention and when that
part (shadow) realises what it is doing is totally in conflict with its
intention it has to let go of the negativity and commit to the better,
congruous way.

I think when we do this at a deep unconscious level, through hypnosis
incorporating NLP when we resolve one issue we notice other areas of our life
changing positively too. It always amazes me how far the ripples of change
spread even to the extent of positively affecting other people in our lives.

And ………………

when we begin to radiate positive thoughts and behaviours we
tend to attract more of that to us.

So really when you think about it when we become aware of these ‘shadows’, these
feelings we should begin to celebrate because it means we are going to grow,
become more aligned all it takes is just a little work with our unconscious
mind ~ and that’s what we do here.

 Enjoy
and if this has connected with you email us here

What dreams do we dare not dream?

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

As we grow up we, well most of us, seem to turn into adults with adult outlooks. What I mean by this is that we tend to put up with what we have and settle for something less than we could have ~ if only we dared to dream.

Our beliefs, of what we can and cannot achieve or what we deserve in life, formed through our experiences and those around us can hold us back from truly living out our passions and experiencing the wonders of life that is our birthright.

Can we change this ~ you bet! That’s what we do here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy (one to one), on our Reclaim your Destiny Weekend (in a group seminar) and was the spark that turned into the flame in me to create my ‘Create Your Dreams’ website.

You see, once we open our beliefs to being deserving of what we desire we can begin the adventure of having and experiencing what we want for us and others in our lives.

I wonder what dreams (goals) you are holding back from yourself? What secret desires are you not sharing with yourself?

If you were to let go of those beliefs that have been holding you back it would mean you would have the freedom to dream and let your creative ‘juices’ flow. It doesn’t mean you have to follow them and have the best of your life could be, it simply means you have the choice to make them the way you want them. Not allowing yourself to dream is to have no choice at all.

For those who are still a little worried 🙁 remember……

A spark (your dreams) can be fanned into a bright and wonderful flame which never goes out and is always under control because you are the fan.

I wouldn’t want you not to achieve your dreams to quickly!

and when is now a good time to start.

Enjoy your every heart beat

Can Hypnosis do Anything?????

Monday, May 11th, 2009

We seem to be intrigued about hypnosis and the power of hypnosis.

What is it? What can it do?

And this question – can it so anything?

And even that question can be seen as meaning different things

to those who ask it.

To some people anything may mean nothing and to others it may mean everything. I guess it depends on you. The meaning of the question and the answer you’re looking for, listening for.

Hypnosis isn’t a thing, it isn’t something you can hold or touch, is it? If you were to ask me there are a couple of answers that come to mind.

Hypnosis, that is the process of hypnosis, can create wonderful changes in ourselves and others and usually, in my experience, far greater than we could ever imagine. I’ll talk about that in a minute.

The second thing that comes to mind is that we are consciously unaware of the power of our unconscious mind and it’s with hypnosis that this, our, infinite potential can be realised and experienced.

So can hypnosis do anything/everything? I believe we can, (yes I meant we) and here’s the thing, that is the difference that makes the difference, intention and meaning – “what?” I’ll explain.

Intention– I’m referring to the intention of the hypnotist. If a hypnotist believes (I mean really believes) that change can and will occur then with that belief their intention will create the change. The client’s unconscious mind will tune in to this and providing the positive intention of the issue/disease is honoured change will happen.

And then there’s …..

Meaning– Does the change have meaning to the person being hypnotised?

Do they really want it for themselves? If they got it now would ‘juice’ them? And even if they can’t at the moment imagine having the change (some people can’t because they have had the problem so long) if they dared to think how it would be having changed would it be something they want?

If the change is not something the client wants to have happen or is something that someone else wants for that person then why change?

So you may be thinking from all of this that hypnosis doesn’t do anything and it’s all to do with the hypnotist and the client and in part you’re right. To me these are the important ingredients for the process of hypnosis to create any change we desire.

To my mind, it really comes down to the fact that change and learning is made at unconscious level, whether it be emotional, behavioural or physical (healing) and the process of hypnosis works at the unconscious level. With the right ingredients I believe hypnosis can do anything and everything and that you have the infinite potential to have what you want or desire, to be or have it’s as simple as that.  I hope this gives you thought, a feeling that you want to explore, resonates something inside or that you can see an opportunity to consider that anything is possible when you enlist the help of your very best friend, the friend that is always with you (night and day), that only wants the best for you – that’s right – your unconscious mind.

New and old beliefs ~ a comparison

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

Recently, well over the last month, I have been going to a great gym. Well not exactly a gym but a place called Core Cambridge where I am being helped to regain core stability and a better structure~ regain my way of standing and moving in alignment.

Well bully for you I hear a murmuring!

What’s this got to do with what you do here?

I began to compare this with our beliefs. How well are we aligned to who we really are? Do our beliefs support us in the world today and where we want to be? Our standing in our wold?

Like core stability is our physical foundation, our core beliefs are our psychological/mental foundation and over time get set in old ways, old patterns.

To regain my physical core stability I have been stretched and my muscles retrained to fire in a new/old way. To let go of my posture as it is, having being shaped by moving and sitting in ways that create pressure and misalignment. I just hadn’t noticed over time how much this had effected me. Initially these new movements seem strange, even uncomfortable yet within a short period of time I began to feel free’re (not a propper word but you know what I mean), lighter and to move with more purpose.

How similar this is to changing our old limiting beliefs with the corresponding results

I wonder sometimes if you have any beliefs that you notice now that really don’t support you and what your potential would realise if you changed them to support what you want and can achieve if you did.

I believe in you……………Do You? and if you had my belief what will you achieve and enjoy every heartbeat getting there?

I wonder………………………………………………..

Can we choose what we believe in?

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Beliefs can be such funny things we we hear them.
Ours, that is.
When we’re working with our clients we elicit or uncover the things that we live by at an unconscious level, the beliefs and values at our core. The things we live our life by and don’t even know it until we have an issue or when things just don’t seem to feel right, you know, on the inside.
Yet, if we were to have the belief that we can choose any belief, imagine what changes we can make and the wonderful things we could do and enjoy.
And I believe we all can and that’s a great belief to believe and so much better than those like “I’m not worth it” or “I don’t deserve to have what I want” etc. etc.

See, we take on most of our core beliefs and values from sometime before the age of 5, the imprint period,
and whose beliefs are they? Our parents, Grandparents and anybody else who’s around and where did they
get them from and when and how relevant are they to your life today?
Can we change our core beliefs?
You bet and if they don’t inspire us or support us then we should. Time Line Therapy is a wonderfully gentle way of changing our beliefs, our negative emotions (without regression) and when used in conjuction with NLP and Hypnosis anything is possible (Oops! there’s another belief of ours)
Thinking that “I’m stupid and won’t achieve” or something like that to me is something that’s
just not right as we have infinite potential to do anything ~ yes ANYTHING! we are the creators of our reality
so lets create something more than we could ever dream of for ourselves and others.
So…………..
If you don’t believe any of this or feel at this moment you can’t change or see another way
Imagine………….
What would it be like if you could? if you did?
what would you see?
what would you hear?
what would you feel?
you don’t have do anything other than IMAGINE IT, PRETEND
AND
what would that mean to you if you could have it that way?
and what would that mean to you?
Go on…………play~it’s free
and so are those wonderful beliefs
You might even want to find out how to let go of all that other stuff such as anxiety, low self esteem
and have what you want and feel different now.

How much pleasure could you stand

Paul
