Hypnotherapy and Sports Psychology

Sunday, June 29th, 2014

Over the past couple of years we at Cambridge Hypnotherapy developed a sister site called Cambridge Sports Psychology. We were getting lots of enquiries from sportsmen and women who knew that they were not achieving their potential and that their results were not being equalled by their talent and ability.

We have worked with pretty much any sport that you could think of including rugby, football, boxing, mma, showjumping, golf, shooting, snooker, archery, motocross and many many more. We have used our set of skills with clients ranging from hobbyists all the way through to professional and international sportspeople.

When it comes to performing, you can have all the talent in the world…. if you don’t have the correct mindset then the chances are high that you will never achieve the success that you are deserving of. There are countless examples of professional sportspeople who are some of, if not the very best in their field. However there are times in their careers that they simply cannot bring all of their skills and talents into play, including the following examples:

  • Tiger woods – Arguably the greatest ever golfer yet when he was going through his personal troubles his performances were nowhere no matching his ability
  • Fernando Torres – Signed for £50million after being world class at Madrid and Liverpool, yet a drop in form and confidence, as well as the burden of the price tag has led to      unbelievably below par performances.
  • Gareth Bale – Presently the worlds most expensive player but he started his Tottenham career with the jinxed reputation of being on the losing side in the first 24 games he played in leaving his performances lacking in confidence.
  • England cricket team – being one of the best in the world yet being whitewashed in Australia as the fear/anxiety became too much for them.

Now that Wimbledon has begun we have already seen an increase in tennis related enquiries as the sport is bought back into the public eye for another year.

No matter what sport you play, or the level that you play at, we at Cambridge Sports Psychology can help improve your performance, let go of any performance related anxiety, and most importantly of all get you to ENJOY your sport again.

Helping relationships over Christmas with Cambridge Hypnotherapy

Tuesday, November 26th, 2013

Following on from Luke’s latest Cambridge Hypnotherapy Blog posting about anxiety experienced at Christmas I think it would be good to have a look at why this anxiety comes about in families at this time of year.

Now it could just the drink talking and unfortunately this can be a big issue for some. Alcohol flows so much freer at this festive time ~ freer and usually earlier and for longer. It’s a recipe for trouble and usually brings the worst out of everybody. This calls for reconciliation and maybe dealing with possible drink related problems and addictions. To us that’s not a big problem to resolve it’s just a problem that gets bigger and uglier if you don’t resolve it

But even more than the drink, usually problems occur because we’re just not use to spending so much time with each other. Now spending time with loved ones should be something to treasure. But if this extended time together brings up problems in our relationship that are usually buried by you being at work, shopping, cleaning and all the usual stuff then it’s a signal to you something needs addressing.

Imagine having dealt with these relationship problems how wonderful would life be? How special would time be, spent with your love one, family and friends?

Why don’t we do something about it?

Here’s one reason:

You don’t realise you can do anything about it or you don’t realise with just a little effort and help from us you can make your life and the lives of others in your life awesome! You just have to want it!

Why would you commit your life to someone and not have your life improve because of that commitment? With just a little effort every relationship can grow better and better. This is specifically why we have a web site totally dedicated to improving every type of relationship called quite simply Improvingyourrelationships.co.uk.

Have a look if you’re interested in enjoying every part of your relationships, be they with family, friends and that special person in your life right now.

Either way you may only have one life to live or many live depending on your beliefs ~ either way you owe it to yourself to enjoy them all to the full and not have regrets such as “if only………”

Sleep Disorders and Hypnotherapy

Cambridge Hypnotherapy for Sleep Disorders

Recently we have had a trend of enquiries at Cambridge Hypnotherapy for sleep disorders from potential clients. The term sleep disorders can mean anything from not being able to get to sleep, constantly waking up due to a light level of sleep, and all the way to people who sleep too much and are constantly tired!

Hypnotherapy for sleep issues is a a great way to make a dramatic and easy change. When you think about it, sleep is 100% controlled by our unconscious mind, and I think we’ve all experienced who hard this makes it to change on a conscious level at times when we’ve been desperate to sleep, but the more you try the more awake you seem to find yourself!

Unfortunately, when it comes to sleep part of our mind (the unconscious) may deem sleep as being wasted time, and if you have an important meeting or presentation the next day then if you spend all night sleeping that means you have less time to spend preparing, right? And if you spent all night preparing your speech etc then you would be able to perform to the very best of your ability the next day, right? WRONG! We can use advance levels of NLP and Hypnosis to allow your mind to learn that even though it makes sense on paper, if you spend all night awake you will undoubtedly be over tired the next day and therefore perform way below par!

We will all have slept on a problem before, and when we do it always seems to feel different the next day. This is because even when you are asleep your mind can continue to process information and this is what we will allow your mind to learn. You will find yourself falling asleep quickly and easily without any sort of anxiety about what could happen and this will be a life long lasting change.

If you would like to change any issue you may have regarding sleep or sleep disorders with Hypnotherapy in Cambridge, please contact us here or call us on 01223 720 120 for a complimentary initial consultation with no obligation to proceed.

We look forward to hearing form you soon!

Hypnosis for fear of flying – Cambridge Hypnotherapy for phobias

Monday, October 14th, 2013

Recently I read an article in the national newspapers highlighting a story about a young boy of 12 years old who had developed a phobia of flying and now been stranded in the Middle East for more than one year. Eventually, with the aid of Hypnotherapy, he managed to overcome his fear and fly back with his Father to meet up with his Mother and Sister who had already returned to the UK.

Fear of flying is one of the more common phobias that we work with here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy, however we have worked with pretty much any phobia that you can think of including fear of spiders, fear of heights, fear of needles, fear of dogs, fear of driving and even the fear of shirt buttons among many many more.

The Father in this particular case thought that his Sons phobia had been bought on by an ear infection that bought with it terrible pain and discomfort, and this type of situation is very common. Quite often the phobia is not actually caused by anything bad happening with that particular thing, such as flying issues, but more so by something else which makes it simply a horrible experience, such as the ear infection. The next time that individual gets ready to do that thing again, their unconscious mind remembers what happened last time and how emotionally unpleasant it was, thus creating so much fear that they simply don’t go ahead with doing it! If you don’t do it, it can’t be horrible, right?…. WRONG!!!! By not doing what we want to enjoy doing, it feels pretty horrible in itself!

So how long does it take to let go of a phobia? Well certainly not 12 months! Once someone has decided that the time is right t0 let go of it, it takes no more than 3 sessions. Many of our clients actually achieve their results in less than this!

If you have a fear or phobia that you feel has been affecting your life and would like to find out just how easy it is to let go of your phobia with Cambridge Hypnotherapy, you can contact us here, or call us on 01223 720 120 and we will be more than happy to discuss it with you. You will also receive 2 free downloads, and are welcome to come and visit us for a free initial consultation where you can find out more.

Amazing results ~ Hypnotherapy for young adults ~ the real Cambridge Hypnotherapy

Wednesday, September 11th, 2013

Something special happening at Cambridge Hypnotherapy

Lately I have been overwhelmed, in a good way, in having the opportunity to work with young people, young adults that is. With that I mean 19 – 21 year olds, wanting to get theirself together and doing something about it. It seems to me that it must take a lot of courage to get in touch with a Hypnotherapist, someone that does an ‘ism ~ Hypnotism and then be prepared to do whatever it takes to be the way they want to be!

It’s been really encouraging to watch these young people make great changes in their lives and take responsibility for it themselves, no blaming others or circumstances, and doing things for themselves.

You see, we all see a lot of people in the world blaming their situation on anything or everything but themselves ~ The economic situation, the government, the weather, other people, their bosses, the anything you can think of except themselves. It’s simply the law of cause and effect and if you live on the effect side of life you have and can find any amount of reasons why you can’t do or have something or in other words ~ Excuses, because that’s what they are.

When you live on the cause side of life and take full responsibility for you life you can do anything and change things the way you want them to be, simply because you can!!!

That’s the great thing about watching these young people have the courage and conviction to want to be the best they can be and settle for nothing less. They just didn’t realise they had all they need inside them and just needed our special processes to guide them to access those resources and make those changes. And because they were prepared to do whatever it takes it meant they were able to make the changes they wanted quickly and easily ~ mostly within one or two sessions. The funny thing was, because it was obvious to us that they couldn’t afford to pay our full price, we had to offer them concessionary rates. They didn’t ask for them and didn’t know about them until it came for payment of the session which made it even more rewarding giving them.

Here’s what one sent to us..

You helped  me out in a way that’s changed my life. I can’t begin to thank him enough. You have given me confidence and  a deeper understanding of my self. I have been able to control my anxiety and relax allot more! I saw improvement from the very first session. My whole life and understanding has changed for the positive. Again thank you!!!”

It doesn’t get better than that or can it…?

We, (young, old and in the middle and any sex) all have this ability to take action, to have the courage to make a change in our lives, to take back responsibility for your life and have it they way you want it. You don’t need to know how, just how you want to be and we’ll help you.

If this resonates with you, even if only a little then do one of two things:

Dealing with OCD with Cambridge Hypnotherapy – on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

Wednesday, July 31st, 2013

This week I was asked by BBC Radio Cambridgeshire to speak on their show, discussing the topic of OCD and looking at the different methods to treat it. As we work with many clients with OCD at Cambridge Hypnotherapy, I was asked on how Hypnotherapy can help change the way that people think or behave.

OCD can be displayed in many different ways including the following:

  • cleanliness and hand washing
  • checking appliances, lights and plug sockets are switched off
  • making sure doors and windows are locked over and over
  • having to perform a particular behaviour a set number of times
  • calorie counting and body image
  • thought about hurting themselves or others
  • having to organise things or line things up to an irrational level
  • Feeling anxious about things you know you don’t need to

To us here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy, even though all of the symptoms above are slightly different, they are also exactly the same in the sense that are just a behaviour or way of processing information and thinking about things.

Using NLP and Hypnosis, we can help change they way that our minds process information, which will in turn lead to a change in our behaviour too. We can allow your mind to accept that once you have done something, that memory can be real so that the mind doesn’t need to go back and re check it and you can start to trust your own judgement the first time you do something. No baby is born with OCD behaviours, which tells us that these symptoms and ways of being are simply  learned behaviour. More so, if we have learned it, what’s stopping us from learning a new one again, if we show your unconscious mind all the reasons why it needs to?

It doesn’t take long to let go of Obsessive Compulsive behaviours, in fact we here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy only work with clients for 2-3 sessions.

If there is something that is bothering you, then why not contact us now by clicking HERE, or call us on 01223 720 120 and we can talk you through it. We always offer you a FREE initial consultation to find out more before you ever proceed.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Luke.

Child abuse and how it affects victims in the long term – Cambridge Hypnotherapy

Wednesday, June 26th, 2013

Over the past 12 months there have countless cases of child abuse reported by the media focusing on high profile names and famous personalities. These cases go back years and years, which has made us think about how long the victims have been holding on to their traumatic memories for and how their lives would have different if they had dealt with them at the time.

At Cambridge Hypnotherapy, we regularly work with clients who have been abused physically, sexually or emotionally, and in the majority of cases all 3! Typically they talk about how they occasionally wake up because of a nightmare, or if they hear about a similar situation in the news or watch something similar on a TV program then all of their old memories come flooding back into their mind. The vast majority of these clients also have something else in common, which is that they feel like there is something wrong with them and that they have a huge lack in self worth, because why were they treated like this… what was wrong with them?

Years and years of feeling like this has a huge effect on peoples lives and can often be diagnosed by the medical world as Depression. They may have started to develop an unhealthy relationship with alcohol as a way to escape these thoughts. As a youngster they may have found it hard to meet people as trusting people had become very hard to do, and as they grow up they find it safer and easier to spend time on their own rather than meet others, which has a knock on effect to relationships not only with friends, but romantically too. More often than not they also have not followed their chosen career path, rather chosen a safe, easy career where they can’t suffer any more trauma or upset.

The majority of clients that we work with reporting this type of situation are typically aged 40 years and above, therefore they have suffered with these emotions and problems for over 25 years of their lives, and thinking like this also makes them feel guilty and regretful for not dealing with it sooner! They dream about how their lives could really have been.

We can help them disconnect form those memories. Using advanced levels of NLP, Hypnosis and Time Line Therapy, we allow their unconscious mind to simply go back into their past, and learn from it. The learn every single learning from every possible unconscious memory that once learned and preserved, will allow them to no longer experience any emotion at the thought of it. The memory will still be there, but there will a nothingness kind of feeling about it.

If you have suffered any kind of trauma in your past that is still bothering you to this day, please feel free to contact us here for a FREE initial consultation to find out just how easy it can be to change you life in only 2-3 sessions, or you can call us on 01223 720 120.

I look forward to hearing form you.

Can we Cure?

The other day a prospective client came to our complimentary initial consultation saying they had been told by their friends to see a hypnotherapist to get cured. Oh I forgot to add the cure was also to be guaranteed.

This begs the question

Who do we know who can say they can cure?” Or “Who do you know who can and does guarantee a cure?

Let’s see….

v     A physiotherapist….. No

v     A nurse……………No

v     Oh! I know a doctor…… No. We have all heard of patients being told   there’s nothing more we can do or the prognosis is ‘x’ amount of time left to live. Some cure!

v     A Surgeon…… No, they get you to sign a consent form and give percentage chances of a full recovery.

The thing is we believe if a client can be cured they actually cure themselves, it’s just they get help from someone like us, and the processes we have developed, here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy. You see we believe this because there are so many cases of remission of illnesses without a supposed cure so then logically, why can’t anyone do the same thing? Ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

Now we seem to be have been talking about really serious illnesses or dis-ease and whilst we jump at the chance to help anyone suffering in this way many of the symptoms we see with our clients are:

v     Depression

v     Anxiety

v     Low self-esteem

v     Eating disorders

v     Drinking issues

v    Weight Loss

v     Stopping or quitting smoking

v     Gambling

v     And the list goes on and on and on.

The thing is if someone can overcome serious illness (and they do, we all know that) then the list above should not be that difficult to resolve when the will is there, that “I’m prepared to do whatever it takes”. We are all ordinary people who can do extraordinary things!

Why do we believe this?

Because we (Paul, Luke and Joseph) have all have had many experiences of our clients making wonderful changes to their lives. It’s not magic but a very magical experience for us and our clients. It’s the reason we do this ‘job’ which isn’t really a job when you’re passionate, as we are, about what we do.
