Loneliness advice ~ hypnotherapy in Cambridge

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

Being alone for some people can be just what they want. A time for thinking, working things out in their heads ~ finding a little space in our busy lives.

For others being alone can be isolating to the extreme and create deep feelings of loneliness.

If you have ever experienced this you will know that feeling, which is different for each one of us. For some it may be an empty feeling, others a feeling of loss and helplessness.

So for those who want that space and can’t find it what can you do?

Well one thing is to commit to yourself in advance. Commit to a time (and a place) and keep in sacrosanct. Tell others who may want your time what you are doing so they can respect your time and give you the space you want.

Then go do it

and you may wish to record your thoughts in a journal especially how good it is to have this space and time with yourself. You are speaking to your best friend, your unconscious mind, this way and therefore the next time you do this the experience will get better and better.

But what about those of us who feel alone now?

What can we do?

Well, there are many things you can do and the information’s is all around, in libraries, newspapers or the internet to find activities, groups or relationships. I know that’s easier said than done if our loneliness is connected to grief, sadness, low self esteem or limiting beliefs we have about ourselves.

The thing is it doesn’t have to be this way (the title of my book about grief) because there is plenty of help at hand

such as:

  • Yes of course we’re here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy and can help you find the real you, the you with all the resources and confidence to create the life what you choose.
  • read empowering autobiographies ~ there’s plenty from Victor Frankl to those of ‘Dragons Den’ and plenty in between.
  • Go on a couple of seminars ~ Joseph’s ‘Reclaim your Destiny’ and ‘Empowerment Live’ to name but two
  • Do a mind map of all the things that interested you as a child, things that excited you and when you have filled a whole page ask yourself the question ” where can I find these feelings or something similar now?”
  • Read “Feel the Fear and do it anyway”
  • go to a book shop and look at all the self help books available and pick one that feels right. Don’t just Read it ~ READ IT and DO WHAT IT SUGGESTS!

the list goes on only your imagination is your boundary and that’s infinite

Hypnotherapy in Cambridge ~ Anxiety, feeling anxious a quick tip

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

I was reading some blogs about anxiety and some were sensationalist and talking about people in the music world etc. The thing is we all, yes all of us, suffer from anxiety in some way or other. For some it seems to propel them into action but I have the thought that this is an extreme way to motivate ourselves. Anxiety may be seen as a simple message from our unconscious minds to prepare for something and in that way have an intention to protect us and keep us safe.

One or the presuppositions of NLP is that ‘every behaviour has a positive intention’ and although the intention here is great, anxiety doesn’t make us feel safe or protected. So as we teach unconscious minds here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy ~ Keep that positive intention and find another way, an empowering way to behave. Knowing how to do this is our speciality which we developed and it works!

It’s great to read advice that comforts those who suffer from anxiety. There’s so much we can read from the internet and if we are careful in what we choose to read there are some very caring people out there sharing.

The thing is we all suffer to some extent although I guess when we feel really anxious we feel isolated and the only person in the world feeling like this.

Here’s a tip

When you begin to feel anxious close your eyes and remember a time when you felt in control and confident, a time when you succeeded. See what you saw then, hear what you heard and feel those feelings. Open your eyes and take some action ~ Now!

This simple way that I hope helps, a sticking plaster or quick fix

If you however feel anxious often know that you can be helped to deal with those negative feelings easily and comfortably~ If not here with us then there’ll be someone near to you that can help

Why Wait?

Friday, January 14th, 2011

The vast majority of our clients here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy tend to say one thing at the end of their set of sessions with us… “I wish I’d have done this sooner!”

So why didn’t they? Quite simply, because they didn’t know how powerful their own minds were, and they didn’t understand that they were responsible for the way that they were behaving. Whether it was stopping smoking, having problems with alcohol, weight management issues, issues with lacking in confidence, and even depression, we want all our clients to accept responsibility for being where they are in their life, and not to blame others or the situations that they have been in.

So what would you change if you could? Would you like to feel that confidence that you may feel in certain situations, in other areas of your life too? Maybe you would like to know that whatever happens at work or in a social event, that you can react and respond in a way that feels right and that you would do if you could consciously choose to? Woul you like to know that it doesn’t matter whether there are cakes and biscuits, or even alcohol around, and that you can stop eating or drinking whenever you want and not feel that you ‘just can’t stop’.

Well now is the time. Please don’t wait and be one of those people who look back after struggling to deal with things for 25 years and say “I wish I’d have done this sooner!”

It really doesn’t have to be a struggle. It can be very quick and effortless if you choose it to be. Contact us now at Cambridge Hypnotherapy to find out just how easy it can be!

When is a phobia good for you? And when to use hypnotherapy.

Wednesday, January 12th, 2011

So when is a phobia good for you? Which seems a daft question because surely a phobia or fear of something that can’t be good for you.

Well generally I would agree. Although if you look at it from a different perspective, have you ever seen anyone with a fear of heights fall off anything high ~ No or anyone with a phobia of flying be in a airplane disaster ~ no they don’t fly at all. (and there’s so many air disasters -NOT) We could go on indefinitely here so I’ll stop.

The thing is if we have a phobia, our unconscious mind is trying to protect us and keep us safe, which is a great intention but using a silly behaviour i.e. fear, anxiety, panic attacks etc etc.

The thing is, unless we have a better way and a desire to change why should our unconscious mind change the way we behave. But worse than that these silly and inappropriate behaviours seem to generalise into other areas of our lives ~ which is a real bummer!

So why use Hypnotherapy and NLP to let go of fears and phobias?

Well it’s simple really

BECAUSE

Using our unique set of skills and specially developments of hypnosis, NLP and time Line Therapy(TM) we can get your unconscious mind to find new ways to act and react, which still protect you and keeps you safe, and do all the things you were afraid of or had a phobia of.

Sounds too simple? Well when done in a way that respects you as being unique, allows your unconscious mind to keep the intention of keeping you safe and gets your unconscious mind to make all the changes itself (no direct suggestions in hypnosis from a ill informed therapist) it can be the most simple procedure. Better than that you don’t have to face your fears of the past or relive them!   ~ which is even better.

Even better than better ~ when you change, your unconscious mind will generalise all these new feelings into other areas of your life and get to feel better all round.

New year resolutions an NLP approach

Thursday, January 6th, 2011
So many people make a list of all the things they want to change in their lives and that’s about it, that’s all they do ~ a list.

Does that sound the most successful way of changing and improving your life? Basically it sucks and we wonder why we fail or break these resolutions.

So what can we do?

Obviously the first thing we would say here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy is to come along and work with us, be coached one to one and be supported in getting what you want.

If that’s not what you want that’s okay because there’s plenty you can do.

The first thing to do is throw away the list, have one sheet of paper for each new goal or outcome you want to achieve. On the top of each one write a sentence to describe what you want but write it in the present tense ” I am now ………. fill in the blank”,

Then a few “why you want it’s” and make sure they are all positive and just notice how that feels imagining having it already ~ now. Imagine the last step so you know you have got your outcome. Make the picture bigger, brighter and notice how that feels

Then, keeping that feeling brainstorm

  • Who do you know who can help?
  • what do you have already?
  • Where can you find things or people to help?
  • What’s the very first thing you could do today? (Keep it simple ~ little steps and you will see results!)
  • How often do you need to review how far you have got towards your outcome?

(You might want to check out my create your dreams website too)

Then commit. Commit to yourself and if you can out loud to others so you will be held accountable.

There’s an awful lot more to coaching and realising your goals and this is all a great start to get you on your way.

Sometimes however, we have limiting beliefs that hold us back or emotions that affect our self esteem and lack of confidence and that’s honestly where we can really help you here and Cambridge Hypnotherapy.

Either way I’d love to know how you get on doing things a little differently once you have thrown away that damn list!

NLP on Radio 4 a comment from Cambridge Hypnotherapy

Monday, November 29th, 2010

It’s great that NLP is being discussed on national radio.

One of the things I didn’t hear are all the successes that NLP has brought about to so many people. That always seems to be missed or simply explained even as a placebo or the charisma of the practitioner.

Placebo or the Charisma??

Well for me, if NLP is a placebo which produces quick and comfortable results that often would take 10 times longer when treated other more ‘recognised’ therapies and psychological interventions then I happily accept the result, it just seems a little naive to believe the quick results that all our clients produce to be entirely down to a placebo effect. And as modest as we are, to say our change work is down to our charisma well…………….?

Maybe the real thruth??

The thing we notice more and more is that a majority of our clients are coming to us because they cannot find a quick and lasting solution to their problems elsewhere and elsewhere favours masking the problem instead of addressing it and finding the resources to deal with it.

One thing that people forget is that NLP was originally modeled from, in part, hypnosis and when you couple NLP with Hypnosis you have a great marriage for assisting people change. Now if you add Time Line Therapy(tm) to that you really do have a range of processes that not only create quick change but also a lasting and comfortable change, no delving into and re-experiencing the past which often can cause even more negative emotions to be experienced. And yes we are all Master practitioners of trainers of all three with over 25 yeears of combined experience.

Now we’re not saying what we do here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy is better than every other therapy ~ far from it ~ all we know are the great results our clients make and continue to make.

If you are interested in finding out more give us a call or email us at enquirie@cambridgehypnotherapy.co.uk or better still contact us here to make an appointment for a complimentary consultation.

Hypnosis for operations ? Does it work?

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

I am never surprised how quick we can do anything ~ especially healing ~ if we simply ask our unconscious mind to do what it does naturally but quicker than usual.

Here’s a really good example from the many we have.

Client with no previous experience of hypnosis and some what sceptical was due a small operation which could be done either under local or general anesthetic. Unfortunately they were the kind of person who really bruise easily and can look like they lost a fight after going to the dentist.

The day before the operation was due to happen they admitted they we getting anxious and a little scared of the prospect and asked “Would hypnosis help??” Our answer is as always “Yes ~ if you want it to”

You see we can ask our unconscious mind to do many things regarding operations such as:

  • To create more and more relaxation before, during and after
  • To accept the operation as a help to regain perfect health and not an invasive thing to the body
  • To reduce swelling if appropriate
  • To reduce bruising to a minimum
  • To be infection free

and

  • To speed up the healing process that will amaze both you and the doctors

So What Happened?

In less than 20 minutes we had gone into trance, done our work with the unconscious mind and come back out of trance.

Had a really restful sleep and woke up looking forward to being back to full health

They decided to have a local anesthetic and was out of the hospital within 4 hours

No bruising and the tiniest swelling.

Had to be told to rest even though feeling OK.

Did it surprise me? ~ No

Did it amaze me? ~ Always!

How young to get rid of a phobia?

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

A little while ago I met with a young client aged fifteen who had a phobia of dogs and a fear of cattle. The problem was he wanted to go to farming college and be a farmer. Unfortunately it wasn’t arable farming but dairy farming with cattle and dogs! and the thing was he had a work placement too and that to had big dogs and even bigger cows!

Now the only thing you need in order to change quickly is to have a real desire to change ~ that’s all and this young lad had bags of it.

Here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy, we (Luke, Joseph and I) have developed unique ways of dealing with phobias and fears. Utilizing NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), Time Line Therapy and Hypnosis we have created wonderful ways of letting go of the fears, anxiety and pictures we make in our mind so we can act just the way we want. Sometimes we need as many as two sessions but in many cases one session will create the changes we want.

So what was the result of our ONE session?

Well let’s find out from the client himself from the emails he sent me

email 1

I have noticed a big difference and I have been able to be around dogs, with comfort and not having the weariness and worry. Unfortunately I have not been able to come into contact with any other animals but I am going to in the next week.

I can’t thank you enough as it has changed my life and what I do because it enables me to go to college and continue my Career in farming and Agriculture and it means I can have animals on my farm and be able to deal with them.

The day after the session I went and saw an Alsatian and it was like completely different to before and even the owner of the dog said that I seemed to be comfortable with the situation.

email 2

thank you again, it has been a great help enabling me to progress without trouble and limits to what I can do

email3

Just to let you know I went to see some cows today and was able to
stroke the with more comfort than last time and my dad noticed the
difference as well

email 4

Dear Paul
I thought that I would let you know that I was offered to help get cows ready for show and so I went along to help and was able to stand with cows having no worry or fear as I did before the session. Here are some photos to prove it.
Thank you again.

So there you have it ~ life changing results at 15 years of age

The Gastric Hypnoband….. real or not???

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

‘The Hypno-Band’ and Weight Loss

I have had a couple of therapists contact me recently to ask me of my thoughts as to ‘The Hypno-Band’. There has been much publicity recently over this system that has been designed to aid clients weight loss within a hypnosis session (or 5) and I thought I’d take some time to share my thoughts on the process and its effectiveness.

So what is it? Well, simply put ‘The Hypno-Band’ is a process whereby the therapist will place their client into a state of hypnosis, and then take their mind on a journey through the actual process of Gastric Band surgery. The hoped for result is that the clients mind will fully accept the process and therefore the following result of having a smaller stomach and eating capacity. That’s it!

So what are my thoughts? Well Quite simply, unless you are the most susceptible person around, I don’t think that for one second you will leave a room believing you have just had ACTUAL surgery and that you are now the proud owner of a Gastric Band, it’s just not going to happen! Yes, the idea of visualising a smaller stomach can allow people to eat less, but surely this can be done without the whole surgery aspect? Does it really take 5 sessions? Well the answer is if you use ‘The Hypno-Band’ probably yes. Does it need to? NO!!! We at Cambridge Hypnotherapy work with clients for no more than 3 sessions.

So how do we differ? We use advanced levels of NLP, TimeLine Therapy and Hypnosis to make quick lasting change! We use NLP to change how your mind perceives food and exercise. If instead of meaning comfort, your unconscious mind saw that the levels of food you were eating made you feel uncomfortable, then it’s not going to lead you to that unhealthy cupboard in your kitchen. If instead of trying to relieve you from that stressful day, your mind saw that your levels of stress were skyrocketing due to still being overweight, again it will not lead you to that cupboard. We also use Hypnosis to allow your mind to find everything that you need from new beliefs, resources and behaviours so that when you walk out of our room, you feel confident and motivated to succeed in your goal and find it easy to just watch the weight fall off!

“I wish I didn’t have to do that presentation”

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Sound familiar? It certainly does to me, not only from the amount of Cambridge Hypnotherapy clients that say those exact words to me during an initial consultation, but I also used to not like speaking in front of people.

Standing up and presenting in front of a group of people can be a very daunting task, especially when some of the group will consist of higher authority figures, maybe a boss or supervisor at work for example. Taking this into account it is easy to see why that event could lead to a state of anxiety, panic or pure fear. You may have experienced this yourself physically, when the heart starts beating faster, the sweat starts to pour and your voice starts to tremble. However just because this appears to happen to almost everybody form time to time, does that make it right? NO WAY!!!!

Your unconscious mind is the over-ruling decision maker of you, and if it thinks a situation can cause you harm it will trigger the protection system, typically known as ‘fight or flight’ meaning you will either fight the danger or get as far away as possible if it thinks you cannot beat it.

So how does this relate to a meeting, or a presentation, or a public talk? Well, simply put, if your unconscious mind sees any risk associated with the event then it will increase your levels of anxiety wither to ensure you do your best and blow everyone away (fight), or increase them so much that you maybe have the day off, or turn up late missing your slot (flight).

Using NLP we can start to reprogram your mindset so that it no longer sees these events as having a risk associated. One client of mine, who came to see me for this exact problem, went and gave a talk to Professor Stephen Hawking feeling completely relaxed and comfortable. That was a HUGE shift!

If you have ever suffered from anxiety, panic attacks, social phobia or confidence related problems, why not contact us now to find out how quickly you can become the way you want to be. It worked for me!
