I was talking to a prospective client on the telephone just the other day desperately seeking help for their child. Unfortunately I did not feel we were the right people to help, or may better put I had a feeling there must and should be someone more experienced in this particular field/problem area to deal with a client of such a young age.
The problem this lady had was she felt totally unsupported and left with no particular course of action. Obviously if she was unable to find someone we would offer to help ~ I just thought there must be a more experienced person used to dealing with this.
If I wasn’t the right person I could certainly be a person to offer support and help which is what I did ~ in two ways.
The first was to ask a simple question which I thought would have been asked by the ‘Experts’! Which was
“ Well what happened just before the problem started?”
A simple question and generally there always seems to a trigger in our lives that creates our issues. To my disbelief it hadn’t been asked yet the answer gave all the information you would need to help heal the situation/issue and gave hope that having identified the why/how the problem started there was a way in resolving it for her child. Maybe you can forgive GPs not asking this question in the 10 minutes they have to deal with their patients but this was a serious thing to be happening to one so young it seemed to me the natural question to start with.
The second thing I did was to find information of someone more qualified to help, call them and relayed details to both parties. If all else fails we will see the child and do the best we can because that’s what caring people do.
Now the thing is, finding the trigger is one thing, it’s really a protection mechanism of the body and our unconscious mind. Getting that trigger to trigger off a better behaviour is the real key to success. If we spend just a little time, using our specially developed questioning we seem to find the cause as well. That’s why we rarely see our clients more than 2-3 sessions.
From there on it’s relatively easy to create the change both comfortably and easily that stays changed. Our metaphor is of a weed the more you pull the leaves the more leaves it seems to grow (the problem spreads to other areas of our lives) BUT when you pull out the root the weed and all its leaves disappear for good.
So I guess to sum up if you have a problem makes you feel bad or react in way you don’t like get in touch and ask if we can help. A consultation costs you nothing – It’s complimentary and it could just change your life for the better there and then. I know we can help if not personally we can help you find a way. Because that’s what we do
We think the bravest thing you do in solving your issues and making the changes you want is to arrange or book an initial consultation.
So when you come along here’s what to expect:
Well firstlyDON’T expect to be hypnotised because you won’t. We don’t do any work at all on your issues ~ so you can relax now.
But you can expect to made comfortable because that’s the most important thing about this consultation ~ It’s your 20 minutes to make a considered decision if you are comfortable with us and that we’re right for you together with having all your questions answered:
Questions like
How many sessions?
How long do sessions last?
How much?
What’s it like to be hypnotised?
What’s NLP, Time Line Therapy?
Some people ask if it’s okay to drive after a session.
Is it totally confidential?
We will answer all of the above and more so rest assured you will have all the information to make a choice.
AND
if we don’t think we’re right for you we will tell you and advise you how to get the right way. It’s really important to us to make sure you get what you want.
AND
Whether you proceed or not we will give you our ‘What will it mean to me’ CD with our compliments
AND
If you didn’t receive a link to our 30 minutes of hypnosis downloads we will send you that as well, again with our compliments.
Imagine how much more difficult life would be if lifts and escalators didn’t exist? Having to visit relatives in a hospital on the 12th floor…. going into large shopping centres and wanting to have a look in a shop on the top level…. realising you have parked on the top floor of the car park and now you have to carry all of your heavy shopping bags up with you, every step of the way.
Well for some people this is their life. A phobia of lifts and escalators is hugely common, and it certainly was for Rachel (name changed for confidentiality). Rachel was in her 70’s and had never been in a lift or travelled up/down an escalator in her entire life, which for me is a huge thing to even fathom. Up until a short while before she contacted me, she Rachel had been content to accept this and wasn’t too fussed about changing now, after all, in her words she’d “managed ok up until now”. However, not only did she have a phobia of lifts and escalators, she was also immensely afraid of flying, and had never been on a plane as the thought of it was just too much and sent her into a state of panic. However she now had a newly found motivation in the shape of a grandchild who lived a plane journey away, and she wasn’t letting this fear get in the way of that!
So you’re probably thinking that as she had had these phobias for over 70 years, and that there was a fear of flying, lifts AND escalators it must have taken lots of sessions to help Rachel let go of them all. Surely it couldn’t be as easy as someone who had had a phobia for only a very short time, could it? The short answer is YES, it was that simple. It took Rachel only 90 minutes to finally be free of those horrible feelings. Only 30 minutes after our session, she rang me to say she was in john Lewis, travelling down the escalator, and she couldn’t believe the view of the shop, something she had never even contemplated before. And then only a few weeks later I received the following email, which highlights just how far Rachel had come!
Hi Luke
Just wanted to let you know that I had a fantastic holiday and had no
problems with going in lifts and even though our room was on the 7th
floor I was able to sit out on the balcony and enjoy the views – prior
to having hypnotherapy with you I couldn’t go in a lift and wouldn’t be
happy going above the 2nd floor let alone look out over a balcony.
Also managed really well on the flights this time.
So thank you very much Luke as it has made a huge difference to my
life..
SO if there is something that you want to change in your life, whether it’s a phobia you want to let go of, or simply to become more confident and let go of anxiety, contact us now to find out just how quickly you can do it!
Being alone for some people can be just what they want. A time for thinking, working things out in their heads ~ finding a little space in our busy lives.
For others being alone can be isolating to the extreme and create deep feelings of loneliness.
So for those who want that space and can’t find it what can you do?
Well one thing is to commit to yourself in advance. Commit to a time (and a place) and keep in sacrosanct. Tell others who may want your time what you are doing so they can respect your time and give you the space you want.
Then go do it
and you may wish to record your thoughts in a journal especially how good it is to have this space and time with yourself. You are speaking to your best friend, your unconscious mind, this way and therefore the next time you do this the experience will get better and better.
But what about those of us who feel alone now?
What can we do?
Well, there are many things you can do and the information’s is all around, in libraries, newspapers or the internet to find activities, groups or relationships. I know that’s easier said than done if our loneliness is connected to grief, sadness, low self esteem or limiting beliefs we have about ourselves.
Yes of course we’re here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy and can help you find the real you, the you with all the resources and confidence to create the life what you choose.
read empowering autobiographies ~ there’s plenty from Victor Frankl to those of ‘Dragons Den’ and plenty in between.
Do a mind map of all the things that interested you as a child, things that excited you and when you have filled a whole page ask yourself the question ” where can I find these feelings or something similar now?”
Read “Feel the Fear and do it anyway”
go to a book shop and look at all the self help books available and pick one that feels right. Don’t just Read it ~ READ IT and DO WHAT IT SUGGESTS!
the list goes on only your imagination is your boundary and that’s infinite
It’s great that our clients not only give us feed back on how they have changed they are also willing to share it with the world through allowing us to show it as testimonials.
We have had two this week and it’s only Wednesday morning!
Both Luke and I know it wasn’t what we both did that created the change in these and all our clients it was their desire to change and willingness to do whatever it takes that really made the change ~ They did it (with, we would like to think , a little help from our unique way of therapy)
“Hi Luke, Sorry it has taken me a while to reply. I would like to say a massive massive thank you because my work with you has really made a big difference! I am feeling much more confident in a range of situations and am feeling better week by week”
“Dear Paul,
I wanted to let you know that I won’t be needing my next session as I feel extremely happy with what we covered, and I feel fantastic!! I am so grateful to you for helping me look at everyday as a positive and a happy one! Haven’t felt that way for such a long time!!!”
I know other people like to have testimonials to show ‘how good they are” but we see it differently and believe ours show:
what’s possible and give hope if hope were needed.
and to give encouragement to those who at the time of reading them feel isolated, lonely and and what we often hear looking for a last resort, a last chance.
And it’s been our experience that even the seemingly biggest problems, negative emotions/feelings do have simple and easy solutions when we are prepared not accept the way we feel and ready to do what it takes to change and have what we want for us.
Sometimes “have what we want for us“ can seem a little selfish doing this purely for us and no one else but when we feel back to being the real us and happy being us everyone around us gets to feel that good too! It this way it would be selfish to hold on to the old way, not change for you and deny people seeing you at your happiest best.
We all deserve to have more happiness than you can stand (was that a hypnotic instruction? )
If any of this has made you think you would like to find out more contact us by clicking here and we’ll do all we can to help you
A little while ago I received a reply to an initial consultation reminder text we send out that made me think.
The text read something like this:
“Thanks. Ironic that I am seeking your help as I am anxious about everything” and here’s the bit that got me “Including coming to see you!”It’s only because we know the initial consultation is our way to put you at your ease and we have been in so many we’re never anxious!
Being serious though I can really empathise with that comment, sometimes we can be so worried of the unknown we will stay stuck. Some people call it staying in their comfort zone and if you have ever thought that way and I think we all have maybe it should be renamed “the Familiar Zone”. You can be so familiar with your problems, issues and the negative way you feel it can be scary to think of being any other way.
Luke, Joseph and I know this here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy which is why we insist on our prospective clients come to an initial consultation. It’s a time where we can let you know all about our special kind of Hypnotherapy and make you feel really comfortable.
How do we do that?
Well firstly:
You can see we are real people and can tell we are both passionate about your results and you can see that what we are telling you is what we believe in. We don’t sell magically on the telephone or on the web ~ you get to see “the whites of our eyes!” and you get to do this with our compliments, it’s absolutely free.
Secondly:
You get to make a considered decision by getting all your concerns answered and if we’re not for you that’s great and if we are that’s great to.
Thirdly:
You have that worry of being regressed back to times in your life when things were bad ~ because we don’t do that here.
Fourthly:
For those that worry with phobias etc that you will be made to face the thing your fear so much ~ we don’t do that either!
There’s a lot more I could add but then I want you to find out for yourself and start making the changes to your life ~ with a little special help from us.
The other day a client called about coming along to an initial consultation but was scared. She had beeen recommended to ‘try’ hypnotherapy by a friends and even though her friend new the results first hand she still remained scared and worried. This can be typical for quite a few people so I thought I would let you know the truth.
So let’s describe a typical hypnosis trance:
If you get up in the mornings with an alarm then you will sure to have had this experience or if you have been asleep and just in that semi awake state, not asleep yet not quite awake. You can probably remember a time right now.
It’s just that you know you could get up, you can hear everything that’s going on, you are aware you are not asleep but it’s just too comfortable and you are soooooo relaxed. ~ That’s it, that’s what being in a trance is like ~ You’re in control ~ totally! You could get up but you well Hmmmm it’s nice here. Yet if you had to get up and deal with something you could.
And there is another great thing that we feel here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy, with our unique Hypnotherapy, is that you may not even be hypnotized because we specialise in NLP and Time Line therapy as well as hypnosis because hypnosis may not be the right thing for you.
But we digress; let’s ask a few questions that if you are scared would put your mind at rest.
Question:Will I lose control?
Answer: Absolutely not! And don’t believe anyone tells you different. A real hypnotherapist guides your unconscious mind to find your answers, never direct you to do anything.
Question: Will I suffer any side affects?
Answer: Probably ~ you may just feel a whole lot better than you felt before!
Question:Will I feel hypnotized or be lie like I am in a coma?
Answer: You will have probably seen people being hypnotized on the stage and looking completely ‘out of it’ well that’s so far from the truth in a therapy setting. Yes, you will probably feel really relaxed and comfortable and the thing is you will hear everything being said to you, it’s just that you will have your eyes closed.
The best thing you can do is make sure you come along to an initial consultation first, it’s totally complimentary and you can get all the information and answers you need first hand. You will find like most things you worried about and when you did them, you got through them and probably enjoyed them ~ hypnosis is the same.
Plus because we really enjoy our work and helping people get what they want we find our clients enjoy it too!
Have you ever had the experience of being both happy and disappointed at the same time?
I worked such a lovely client who had had depression for over 15 years and life’s experiences were not the best. Well it was those experiences that remained in the forefront of their mind when they first came to visit us for the complimentary consultation.
Desperate for someone to help and be truthful in expectations we began our first session which began the process to recovery of a life that they would enjoy and for the people in her life to enjoy too.
Because of all the things they had experienced we wanted to find the one thing that would allow them to let go of that depression (and anxiety/fear). You see, we could have just tried to eliminate each one at a time and spend countless number of sessions ~ Which we here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy DON’T, WON’T or NEVER do ~ What we did was this ~ we found the cause of their negative feelings. This is what would be termed the root cause and the metaphor we use to explain this is, if you just keep picking the leaves from a weed they just keep on growing but if you pluck out the root it has to disappear.
And this is where happy and disappointed fits in. I had my expectations of clearing this depression in three sessions (or sooner) and it took five (although begining session 5 we were already 90% better!)
One of the nicest things to happen during our time together was that this client reviewed the draft of my book about addressing and dealing with grief (it’s tentatively called “It doesn’t have to be this way”) and the critique was brilliant and maybe the content helped us too.
So I guess what I’m saying here is yes it’s really possible to change the way you feel no matter how bad or for how long in 3 or less sessions but just occasionally it takes another 3 hours.
The thing is YOU really can change if,, like our clients, you really want too and are prepared to do whatever it takes.
Sound familiar? It certainly does to me, not only from the amount of Cambridge Hypnotherapy clients that say those exact words to me during an initial consultation, but I also used to not like speaking in front of people.
Standing up and presenting in front of a group of people can be a very daunting task, especially when some of the group will consist of higher authority figures, maybe a boss or supervisor at work for example. Taking this into account it is easy to see why that event could lead to a state of anxiety, panic or pure fear. You may have experienced this yourself physically, when the heart starts beating faster, the sweat starts to pour and your voice starts to tremble. However just because this appears to happen to almost everybody form time to time, does that make it right? NO WAY!!!!
Your unconscious mind is the over-ruling decision maker of you, and if it thinks a situation can cause you harm it will trigger the protection system, typically known as ‘fight or flight’ meaning you will either fight the danger or get as far away as possible if it thinks you cannot beat it.
So how does this relate to a meeting, or a presentation, or a public talk? Well, simply put, if your unconscious mind sees any risk associated with the event then it will increase your levels of anxiety wither to ensure you do your best and blow everyone away (fight), or increase them so much that you maybe have the day off, or turn up late missing your slot (flight).
Using NLP we can start to reprogram your mindset so that it no longer sees these events as having a risk associated. One client of mine, who came to see me for this exact problem, went and gave a talk to Professor Stephen Hawking feeling completely relaxed and comfortable. That was a HUGE shift!
If you have ever suffered from anxiety, panic attacks, social phobia or confidence related problems, why not contact us now to find out how quickly you can become the way you want to be. It worked for me!
