How we don’t do Hypnotherapy in Cambridge

There’s a wonderful clip on Youtube

To me, one of the funniest men to create stories that come to life in your head.

This one’s a skit video.

Okay so maybe you need a more empathetic solution

here it is Cambridge Hypnotherapy

Treat yourself for Christmas by changing your life NOW!

Friday, November 25th, 2011

When you ask most people what they would like for Christmas, they will give you a material answer such as clothing, maybe a CD or DVD or even something for the home. Not many would take a second to think about what would actually personally benefit them forever.

For example, an item of clothing may make someone feel better whilst wearing it and whilst its new, but no doubt won’t help too much when they are in a meeting at work and start to feel their usual anxiety attacks kicking.

Or maybe listening to that CD will help them relax for the 30 minutes they spend listening to it, but what happens when they find that they have opened the second bottle of wine, and just can’t seem to stop? No doubt they start to become stressed out again pretty quickly!

When we take a second to look a little bit deeper, we all have something that we would like to change… maybe it’s letting of a phobia, maybe its losing weight, maybe it’s even letting go of jealousies and insecurities.

The added bonus of looking to change with us here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy is that your changes will last forever and will not wear away like that new jumper, or won’t become old like that current CD.

We, at Cambridge Hypnotherapy, have great experience helping others lose weight, increase confidence, let go of anxiety, stop smoking and even let go of depression in only 2-3 sessions….. Why don’t you become one of many success stories too!

Releasing anger ~ Cambridge Hypnotherapy

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

This article was written a little while ago for the Time Line Therapy Association about one of my clients and their most brilliant change in their life and showed how wonderful the effects of Time Line Therapy ™ are.

And because it was such a big experience we thought we should put in on our blog as well

Before we worked on this issue I was put to the test to see how good a hypnotist I was. To stop this client smoking in one session. I wouldn’t normally do therapy this way around ~ I would usually deal with issues and then the smoking but this client wasn’t having any of it.

This clients opening sentence to me was:

My Anger is Killing me.”

From the very first moment of learning Time Line Therapy(tm) I knew it worked. It just did. It worked with letting go of my negative emotions on the trainings and wth those I did the exercises with.

But then something happens to test this belief and it did with me, BIG time!
My client came into his session and during the personal history the full extent of his problem was presented to me with the words “If I don’t get help I will die ~ That’s what my doctor has told me so I’ve come to you” Wow.

His Doctor knew there was nothing physically wrong but the effects were physical. Our client was losing weight by the day  and dangerously so. This was also causing deterioration in his organs, blood pressure was above high and blood tests showed other malfunctions. On a personal level this man used to have his daughter and son living with him but that had now all changed. His son had left home and no longer wanted more than brief contact and his daughter, now married and recently a mother did not want any contact with her father or her child with her Grandfather.
What was at the root of this diagnosis – Anger but anger in the extreme.
How was this a problem was a question I didn’t need to ask.
How long have you had this problem ~ 11 years.

I asked “How do you do this problem? ” ~ I think about it every minute of my waking day and sometimes in my dreams when I eventually do get to sleep. I argue with this person in my head. I shout and scream in my head. It gets so loud I have to put on earphones and a CD player at full volume to drown out the noise, it’s constant.

I wanted to know as little content as possible but this client wanted me to know a little so I could understand him better.

This is what he told me:
“Briefly I am so angry with my wife and have been for 11 years, I’ve told you how it has affected my relationships with my son and daughter and that only fans the flames of this anger. I’ve told you how it has and is affecting my health to the point where I am killing myself. That makes me SO angry as well and I can’t stop it – The problem is my wife died 12 years ago and a year after her death I found out something about what she did behind my back with someone else so I’ll never be able to find out………………..”
As always, as I was taught and how I teach in my trainings, I simply follow the scripts which are deep inside me now I can say them unconsciously from memory.
We established where his time line was and a simple test flight which being so far away from what he had been talking about was done with ease.

I love to show the diagrams of the process which really pre-teaches the unconscious mind what to do and what will happen and when the emotion will disappear along with a little re-framing of how anger and negative emotions do not protect and are against the prime directive of the unconscious mind. All was going well.
What really began to blow him away was that finding the root cause was not 11 years ago but at such an early age.
Now for Time Line Therapy(tm) and ten minutes of time.

IT’S GONE! What? how? where? …………….”

After testing, still gone but the real test was to be outside, in the real world.
I had tried to make contact but could never get through just voice mail so I didn’t know what to think.
Then whilst I was out one day  a second appointment was made for me with this client. Why a second appointment? So maybe I hadn’t got the result we wanted, my belief was really being tested. All I could do is wait.

So there I am waiting for my client and in he comes.
“why are you here?” I ask
Well I just wanted to tell you what happened since we last met and felt it only right to make an appointment. Here is how I am now:
The anger I felt is gone I still can’t get it.
My doctor tells me my tests are now showing a dramatic improvement and is left wondering what happened and my weight is returning to what it should be.
Oh I’ve stopped smoking – don’t need them any more.
But more importantly to me my son has returned home to live with me.
Oh I nearly forgot I’m away this weekend to stay with my daughter and her new family and I am now part of the christening plans for my Granddaughter
Thank you

Isn’t great to be part of that, the buz you get and reaffirming why we do what we do.
Does Time line work? I wouldn’t and couldn’t use it or teach it if it didn’t.

Am I congruent when I talk about time line ~ You guess!

Hypnotherapy in Cambridge ~ Anxiety, feeling anxious a quick tip

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

I was reading some blogs about anxiety and some were sensationalist and talking about people in the music world etc. The thing is we all, yes all of us, suffer from anxiety in some way or other. For some it seems to propel them into action but I have the thought that this is an extreme way to motivate ourselves. Anxiety may be seen as a simple message from our unconscious minds to prepare for something and in that way have an intention to protect us and keep us safe.

One or the presuppositions of NLP is that ‘every behaviour has a positive intention’ and although the intention here is great, anxiety doesn’t make us feel safe or protected. So as we teach unconscious minds here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy ~ Keep that positive intention and find another way, an empowering way to behave. Knowing how to do this is our speciality which we developed and it works!

It’s great to read advice that comforts those who suffer from anxiety. There’s so much we can read from the internet and if we are careful in what we choose to read there are some very caring people out there sharing.

The thing is we all suffer to some extent although I guess when we feel really anxious we feel isolated and the only person in the world feeling like this.

Here’s a tip

When you begin to feel anxious close your eyes and remember a time when you felt in control and confident, a time when you succeeded. See what you saw then, hear what you heard and feel those feelings. Open your eyes and take some action ~ Now!

This simple way that I hope helps, a sticking plaster or quick fix

If you however feel anxious often know that you can be helped to deal with those negative feelings easily and comfortably~ If not here with us then there’ll be someone near to you that can help

Call to speak with us directly 01223 720 120 or email via our website here to ask a question or enquire about a complimentary initial consultation.

Why Wait?

Friday, January 14th, 2011

The vast majority of our clients here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy tend to say one thing at the end of their set of sessions with us… “I wish I’d have done this sooner!”

So why didn’t they? Quite simply, because they didn’t know how powerful their own minds were, and they didn’t understand that they were responsible for the way that they were behaving. Whether it was stopping smoking, having problems with alcohol, weight management issues, issues with lacking in confidence, and even depression, we want all our clients to accept responsibility for being where they are in their life, and not to blame others or the situations that they have been in.

So what would you change if you could? Would you like to feel that confidence that you may feel in certain situations, in other areas of your life too? Maybe you would like to know that whatever happens at work or in a social event, that you can react and respond in a way that feels right and that you would do if you could consciously choose to? Woul you like to know that it doesn’t matter whether there are cakes and biscuits, or even alcohol around, and that you can stop eating or drinking whenever you want and not feel that you ‘just can’t stop’.

Well now is the time. Please don’t wait and be one of those people who look back after struggling to deal with things for 25 years and say “I wish I’d have done this sooner!”

It really doesn’t have to be a struggle. It can be very quick and effortless if you choose it to be. Contact us now at Cambridge Hypnotherapy to find out just how easy it can be!

New year resolutions an NLP approach

Thursday, January 6th, 2011
So many people make a list of all the things they want to change in their lives and that’s about it, that’s all they do ~ a list.

Does that sound the most successful way of changing and improving your life? Basically it sucks and we wonder why we fail or break these resolutions.

So what can we do?

Obviously the first thing we would say here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy is to come along and work with us, be coached one to one and be supported in getting what you want.

If that’s not what you want that’s okay because there’s plenty you can do.

The first thing to do is throw away the list, have one sheet of paper for each new goal or outcome you want to achieve. On the top of each one write a sentence to describe what you want but write it in the present tense ” I am now ………. fill in the blank”,

Then a few “why you want it’s” and make sure they are all positive and just notice how that feels imagining having it already ~ now. Imagine the last step so you know you have got your outcome. Make the picture bigger, brighter and notice how that feels

Then, keeping that feeling brainstorm

  • Who do you know who can help?
  • what do you have already?
  • Where can you find things or people to help?
  • What’s the very first thing you could do today? (Keep it simple ~ little steps and you will see results!)
  • How often do you need to review how far you have got towards your outcome?

(You might want to check out my create your dreams website too)

Then commit. Commit to yourself and if you can out loud to others so you will be held accountable.

There’s an awful lot more to coaching and realising your goals and this is all a great start to get you on your way.

Sometimes however, we have limiting beliefs that hold us back or emotions that affect our self esteem and lack of confidence and that’s honestly where we can really help you here and Cambridge Hypnotherapy.

Either way I’d love to know how you get on doing things a little differently once you have thrown away that damn list!

You can always discus this further with us

Passing your driving test with Cambridge Hypnotherapy

Friday, December 3rd, 2010

Driving tests success how Hypnosis helps

I often wonder why more people do not use the benefits of hypnosis and NLP to become a better driver and be at their best for their driving test. Every time I hear the cost of failing a driving test and having to re-book weeks down the line and all those additional lessons I wonder what all that costs in a finacial way, the additional time that has to taken off for lessons and next test and all the emotional worries and anxiety that haunts.

We have had clients who were literaly sick with worry on each lesson, maybe the extreme of experience but nevertheless horrible for those affected.

Another question I ask is how come some people can drive really well on their lessons yet come to the Driving test they lose it. Lose all thier skills and it’s all down to driving test nerves.

We here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy seem to have developed a way to really help judging by the successes of our clients.

Having failed my driving test for the third time through nerves, I decided to contact Cambridge Hypnotherapy before taking another test. After just two sessions with Paul, my nerves have abated, not only while driving but also when faced with other potentially nerve-wracking situations. I passed my test with flying colours and now feel ready for anything! I’m even looking forward to the next big challenge! My friends are already commenting how much calmer and less stressed I seem and I really feel that way, so thank you Paul.” KC Cambridge

“Just to let you know that I passed my test. I was so relaxed about it all that I couldn’t believe that it was really me. It’s taken me 11 years of lessons and 10 failed tests, so I can’t thank you enough. It really has been the only thing I wanted in my life which I had never managed to achieve; so aside from the driving itself, it means a lot to me. I’ll give my instructor your details incase he comes across any other nervous drivers .” – EJ (Cambridge)

“I wish I didn’t have to do that presentation”

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Sound familiar? It certainly does to me, not only from the amount of Cambridge Hypnotherapy clients that say those exact words to me during an initial consultation, but I also used to not like speaking in front of people.

Standing up and presenting in front of a group of people can be a very daunting task, especially when some of the group will consist of higher authority figures, maybe a boss or supervisor at work for example. Taking this into account it is easy to see why that event could lead to a state of anxiety, panic or pure fear. You may have experienced this yourself physically, when the heart starts beating faster, the sweat starts to pour and your voice starts to tremble. However just because this appears to happen to almost everybody form time to time, does that make it right? NO WAY!!!!

Your unconscious mind is the over-ruling decision maker of you, and if it thinks a situation can cause you harm it will trigger the protection system, typically known as ‘fight or flight’ meaning you will either fight the danger or get as far away as possible if it thinks you cannot beat it.

So how does this relate to a meeting, or a presentation, or a public talk? Well, simply put, if your unconscious mind sees any risk associated with the event then it will increase your levels of anxiety wither to ensure you do your best and blow everyone away (fight), or increase them so much that you maybe have the day off, or turn up late missing your slot (flight).

Using NLP we can start to reprogram your mindset so that it no longer sees these events as having a risk associated. One client of mine, who came to see me for this exact problem, went and gave a talk to Professor Stephen Hawking feeling completely relaxed and comfortable. That was a HUGE shift!

If you have ever suffered from anxiety, panic attacks, social phobia or confidence related problems, why not contact us now to find out how quickly you can become the way you want to be. It worked for me!

Regaining control over alcohol with Hypnotherapy

Monday, September 27th, 2010

Kate (name changed for confidentiality reasons) is a wife and mother of 2 young children. She had come to realise that her intake of alcohol had without noticing somehow gotten to an unacceptable level. Some people have that moment of realisation when they get a warning for being late to work once too many times, or say things they shouldn’t have said at a work party. So what was it for Kate? It was the morning when she woke her children up for school, and they said they saw her “wobbling around like a drunk” the night before. In that instant, that very moment, she knew that she had to finally deal with this problem. She had also found that over the years, due to waking up with ‘the shakes’ some mornings, she was becomingly increasingly anxious when working with clients. There had even been a couple of occasions when she had a full blown panic attack, had to cancel her clients session half way through, and had resorted to taking beta blockers to try and ensure it didn’t happen again.

During her initial consultation, Kate told me how she had stayed away from alcohol entirely for 5 days, and that this was the path she wanted to go down. However when pressed further on the matter, it became very clear that this wasn’t the path she wanted to stay on by any means, but the path she felt she HAD to stay on. She was one of the majority of people we see who say they feel as if they HAVE to stay completely free, and that if they have one drink then they will fall off that imaginary wagon. I made it clear to Kate that I would work with her on one condition, that being she understood that she would be able to have a drink again and to trust her unconscious mind!

Over the course of 2 weeks, we worked together only 3 times, certainly not the 10 sessions that she was quoted by other therapists. After the 3rd session, Kate reported back that she was at her 100% goal! She had went to a dinner party after the first session, and noticed halfway through the meal that she hadn’t even touched her glass of wine, whereas others were finishing their 2nd glass. On occasions her husband had poured the both of them a glass of wine in an evening, and halfway through the drink she noticed that she just didn’t want it anymore, put it down and had a juice drink instead. One Saturday night she was on her 2nd glass of wine and thought to herself “I fancy a drink tonight” and decided she would have a 3rd drink afterwards, however come the end of the night she just didn’t get around to it. The following Sunday morning she ran in the “chariots of fire” charity run after going for a morning row with the rowing club, and realised what she had enjoyed about exercise all those years ago. She had also made the decision to no longer take her beta blockers, as she felt so calm and relaxed every morning that nothing seemed to faze her.

So what does this tell us? Well it tells me that we are the only people who can set a limit for ourselves. If we want to regain our life completely, then we decide what we want to do and how we want to do it, we certainly aren’t dictated to by alcohol, or food, or smoking for that matter. Is there something that you would like to change in your life, or regain control over? If so, why not make that step that Kate took and call us on 01223 720 120, or email us at Cambridge Hypnotherapy now.
