Being alone for some people can be just what they want. A time for thinking, working things out in their heads ~ finding a little space in our busy lives.
For others being alone can be isolating to the extreme and create deep feelings of loneliness.
If you have ever experienced this you will know that feeling, which is different for each one of us. For some it may be an empty feeling, others a feeling of loss and helplessness.
So for those who want that space and can’t find it what can you do?
Well one thing is to commit to yourself in advance. Commit to a time (and a place) and keep in sacrosanct. Tell others who may want your time what you are doing so they can respect your time and give you the space you want.
Then go do it
and you may wish to record your thoughts in a journal especially how good it is to have this space and time with yourself. You are speaking to your best friend, your unconscious mind, this way and therefore the next time you do this the experience will get better and better.
But what about those of us who feel alone now?
What can we do?
Well, there are many things you can do and the information’s is all around, in libraries, newspapers or the internet to find activities, groups or relationships. I know that’s easier said than done if our loneliness is connected to grief, sadness, low self esteem or limiting beliefs we have about ourselves.
The thing is it doesn’t have to be this way (the title of my book about grief) because there is plenty of help at hand
such as:
- Yes of course we’re here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy and can help you find the real you, the you with all the resources and confidence to create the life what you choose.
- read empowering autobiographies ~ there’s plenty from Victor Frankl to those of ‘Dragons Den’ and plenty in between.
- Go on a couple of seminars ~ Joseph’s ‘Reclaim your Destiny’ and ‘Empowerment Live’ to name but two
- Do a mind map of all the things that interested you as a child, things that excited you and when you have filled a whole page ask yourself the question ” where can I find these feelings or something similar now?”
- Read “Feel the Fear and do it anyway”
- go to a book shop and look at all the self help books available and pick one that feels right. Don’t just Read it ~ READ IT and DO WHAT IT SUGGESTS!
the list goes on only your imagination is your boundary and that’s infinite
If you do want one to one help get in contact with us and arrange a complementary consultation via email enquiries@cambridgehypnotherapy.co.uk or better still call us on 01223 720 120

A little while ago I received a reply to an initial consultation reminder text we send out that made me think.
The text read something like this:
“Thanks. Ironic that I am seeking your help as I am anxious about everything” and here’s the bit that got me “Including coming to see you!”It’s only because we know the initial consultation is our way to put you at your ease and we have been in so many we’re never anxious!
Being serious though I can really empathise with that comment, sometimes we can be so worried of the unknown we will stay stuck. Some people call it staying in their comfort zone and if you have ever thought that way and I think we all have maybe it should be renamed “the Familiar Zone”. You can be so familiar with your problems, issues and the negative way you feel it can be scary to think of being any other way.
Luke, Joseph and I know this here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy which is why we insist on our prospective clients come to an initial consultation. It’s a time where we can let you know all about our special kind of Hypnotherapy and make you feel really comfortable.
How do we do that?
Well firstly:
You can see we are real people and can tell we are both passionate about your results and you can see that what we are telling you is what we believe in. We don’t sell magically on the telephone or on the web ~ you get to see “the whites of our eyes!” and you get to do this with our compliments, it’s absolutely free.
Secondly:
You get to make a considered decision by getting all your concerns answered and if we’re not for you that’s great and if we are that’s great to.
Thirdly:
You have that worry of being regressed back to times in your life when things were bad ~ because we don’t do that here.
Fourthly:
For those that worry with phobias etc that you will be made to face the thing your fear so much ~ we don’t do that either!
There’s a lot more I could add but then I want you to find out for yourself and start making the changes to your life ~ with a little special help from us.

The other day a client called about coming along to an initial consultation but was scared. She had beeen recommended to ‘try’ hypnotherapy by a friends and even though her friend new the results first hand she still remained scared and worried. This can be typical for quite a few people so I thought I would let you know the truth.
So let’s describe a typical hypnosis trance:
If you get up in the mornings with an alarm then you will sure to have had this experience or if you have been asleep and just in that semi awake state, not asleep yet not quite awake. You can probably remember a time right now.
It’s just that you know you could get up, you can hear everything that’s going on, you are aware you are not asleep but it’s just too comfortable and you are soooooo relaxed. ~ That’s it, that’s what being in a trance is like ~ You’re in control ~ totally! You could get up but you well Hmmmm it’s nice here. Yet if you had to get up and deal with something you could.
And there is another great thing that we feel here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy, with our unique Hypnotherapy, is that you may not even be hypnotized because we specialise in NLP and Time Line therapy as well as hypnosis because hypnosis may not be the right thing for you.
But we digress; let’s ask a few questions that if you are scared would put your mind at rest.
Question: Will I lose control?
Answer: Absolutely not! And don’t believe anyone tells you different. A real hypnotherapist guides your unconscious mind to find your answers, never direct you to do anything.
Question: Will I suffer any side affects?
Answer: Probably ~ you may just feel a whole lot better than you felt before!
Question: Will I feel hypnotized or be lie like I am in a coma?
Answer: You will have probably seen people being hypnotized on the stage and looking completely ‘out of it’ well that’s so far from the truth in a therapy setting. Yes, you will probably feel really relaxed and comfortable and the thing is you will hear everything being said to you, it’s just that you will have your eyes closed.
The best thing you can do is make sure you come along to an initial consultation first, it’s totally complimentary and you can get all the information and answers you need first hand. You will find like most things you worried about and when you did them, you got through them and probably enjoyed them ~ hypnosis is the same.
Plus because we really enjoy our work and helping people get what they want we find our clients enjoy it too!

Resolving grief can seem so difficult to do and a very lonely place to be. It seems as if we are the only person to feel this or have felt like this.
So firstly ~ It is not so difficult to resolve with the right help
and
You are not alone in this ~ we have helped many of our clients let go of grief and remember in a good way.
To support our work I have written a short book with audio hypnosis tracks to just show what is possible. It can be used by itself to deal with grief but I would really like it to used as an addition to getting good help.
So if this is of interest go to my other website www.createyourdreams.co.uk by clicking here and find out more
or better still do that and contact us to see how we can be that good help by clicking here

So when is a phobia good for you? Which seems a daft question because surely a phobia or fear of something that can’t be good for you.
Well generally I would agree. Although if you look at it from a different perspective, have you ever seen anyone with a fear of heights fall off anything high ~ No or anyone with a phobia of flying be in a airplane disaster ~ no they don’t fly at all. (and there’s so many air disasters -NOT) We could go on indefinitely here so I’ll stop.
The thing is if we have a phobia, our unconscious mind is trying to protect us and keep us safe, which is a great intention but using a silly behaviour i.e. fear, anxiety, panic attacks etc etc.
The thing is, unless we have a better way and a desire to change why should our unconscious mind change the way we behave. But worse than that these silly and inappropriate behaviours seem to generalise into other areas of our lives ~ which is a real bummer!
So why use Hypnotherapy and NLP to let go of fears and phobias?
Well it’s simple really
BECAUSE
Using our unique set of skills and specially developments of hypnosis, NLP and time Line Therapy(TM) we can get your unconscious mind to find new ways to act and react, which still protect you and keeps you safe, and do all the things you were afraid of or had a phobia of.
Sounds too simple? Well when done in a way that respects you as being unique, allows your unconscious mind to keep the intention of keeping you safe and gets your unconscious mind to make all the changes itself (no direct suggestions in hypnosis from a ill informed therapist) it can be the most simple procedure. Better than that you don’t have to face your fears of the past or relive them! ~ which is even better.
Even better than better ~ when you change, your unconscious mind will generalise all these new feelings into other areas of your life and get to feel better all round.

It’s great that NLP is being discussed on national radio.
One of the things I didn’t hear are all the successes that NLP has brought about to so many people. That always seems to be missed or simply explained even as a placebo or the charisma of the practitioner.
Placebo or the Charisma??
Well for me, if NLP is a placebo which produces quick and comfortable results that often would take 10 times longer when treated other more ‘recognised’ therapies and psychological interventions then I happily accept the result, it just seems a little naive to believe the quick results that all our clients produce to be entirely down to a placebo effect. And as modest as we are, to say our change work is down to our charisma well…………….?
Maybe the real thruth??
The thing we notice more and more is that a majority of our clients are coming to us because they cannot find a quick and lasting solution to their problems elsewhere and elsewhere favours masking the problem instead of addressing it and finding the resources to deal with it.
One thing that people forget is that NLP was originally modeled from, in part, hypnosis and when you couple NLP with Hypnosis you have a great marriage for assisting people change. Now if you add Time Line Therapy(tm) to that you really do have a range of processes that not only create quick change but also a lasting and comfortable change, no delving into and re-experiencing the past which often can cause even more negative emotions to be experienced. And yes we are all Master practitioners of trainers of all three with over 25 yeears of combined experience.
Now we’re not saying what we do here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy is better than every other therapy ~ far from it ~ all we know are the great results our clients make and continue to make.
If you are interested in finding out more give us a call or email us at enquirie@cambridgehypnotherapy.co.uk or better still contact us here to make an appointment for a complimentary consultation.

Well, we had our second practice group on Saturday and had 20 people attending, half being practitioners and half interested guests. It was great to spend a whole day together sharing our thoughts and experiences together with ‘real life‘ practicing.
The great thing is that everybody learnt things about themselves.
Practitioners remembering what they thought they had forgotten and the confidence to show that it was still there, ‘in the muscle’, to our guests.
Our guests got quite a surprise to find out we were going to teach them some basic tools of NLP that they could take away with them and use them to change the way they feel and the real surprise ~ that they would learn a hypnotic induction and put a practitioner in trance and bring them back again!
What was nice for me was that having lunch together, our guests could ask questions freely, meet new and interesting people and it was a chance to hear how many different things our practitioner were achieving in both their social and business lives.
A great day for everyone and all for less than £20!
If by chance you have stumbled onto this posting and are interested in coming along either:
as a guest, that is someone interested in finding out more about NLP, Time Line Therapy(tm) and our Real Hypnosis
or
as a practitioner who wants to meet and practice. You don’t have to have been to one of our NLP trainings or certified by Joseph or myself. Whatever your skill level you will be made more than welcome.
then give Joseph or myself a call 01223 720 120
or email me paul@josephcloughtrainings.co.uk our training email or here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy
You might even want to sign up for our NLP news letter which has videos, downloads and information all F’ree just go to Joseph’s website josephclough.com and sign up for the downloads and you will start to get the newsletter every two weeks.
More about the news letter in a separate post
Hopefully see you on one of the practice days

When Lindsay approached me here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy, asking for help in getting rid of her phobia of lifts (elevators), I couldn’t wait to get started. Working with someone you know, and have known for many years, really gives you a great sense of trust and excitement.
Being a nanny meant Lindsay was often required to take the children she looked after shopping, and you can just imagine how hard it would be to carry two children, a pram, AND all your shopping bags up the stairs or even on an escalator. It was a nightmare, but as much as she wished she could step inside the elevator…. she just couldn’t bring herself to do it!
For the week before our session, Lindsay was adamant that she was not going to test her results and actually get inside an elevator, but would just be happy knowing that if she REALLY had to, she could!! However, this was not even an option for me, I told her that she would have to go to the shopping centre, get inside that lift, and notice how comfortable it was. Even the thought of this used to bring her out in a cold sweat!
At the beginning of the session, she was petrified of elevators still, and even remembering times when she got inside one as a very young child was enough to send her into a state of huge fear and terror.
However, using some wonderful NLP and TimeLine Therapy approaches, after no more than 30 minutes, thinking about the same memories bought back no fear whatsoever, just a feeling of nothingness, which was an amazing experience.
By the end of the session, Lindsay felt so charged and confident it was incredible. She actually said she “wanted to go and find a lift”.
Waving her goodbye, I knew it had been a great session, and when my phone rang 40 minutes later, and I heard her voice on the other end, I just knew what she was about to say. “I’ve just been in a lift!!! I stood and read a poster inside it without even thinking about it!!”, and as if this wasn’t proof enough for her, her next comment certainly was….. “ I want to find another one, this is FUN”.
Another wonderful success story, so if you too have a phobia or fear that is affecting your life, don’t wait any longer…. Call me on 01223 720 120 or email us NOW!

Last Saturday saw the re-surfacing of our NLP practice group.
Previously we met once a month, in the evening, but that seemed to restrict those who had to travel a distance. So we (Joseph & I) decided to change this to a Saturday and make it a whole day. This allowed us more time to refresh our knowledge in a particular area of NLP & Hypnosis and then do something completely new.
So what did we do last Saturday?
Firstly with some traveling over an hour to get here we had time to catch up and find out what we’d all been doing in the field of NLP etc. Just listening to all the different things we’d been doing and experiencing was really inspiring to do more and gave us all different ideas & things we too could do.
We went on to master our skills in questioning with a live project, a real person and based on a real issue.
After lunch we decided to find what would be some of the best states, behaviours and beliefs of being the best practitioner or therapist. Having refined this to something we could install in ourselves it was time for hypnosis and we installed all these wonderful and empowering resources into each other. So not only were we practicing inductions, installations we were creating change – real change.
In the next practice group we hope to bring along friends so they to can experience NLP, Time Line Therapy and Hypnosis and we can all learn. It’s also hoped we can find someone we can model. Someone who does something really well so we can learn how to do it too.
Who knows what exciting things we can find to do next?
Maybe we’ll see you there too.
Email me if you want to find out more paul@josephcloughtrainings.co.uk (our NLP, Time LIne Therapy and Hypnosis training)
I’m looking forward to the next one

How old do we need to be before we learn to be scared or even have a phobia?
You see, a recent client of ours, we’ll call her Brian because that wasn’t his name, came with what was a phobia of dogs but had it had generalised through to other animals. And that’s what can happen, in order to keep us safe and protected our best friend, our unconscious mind, decides to make sure nothing will harm us and creates a ‘good old’ fear for other things.
So now we not only spend our time thinking of the first thing that scared us but all the other things and times where can be scared. The problem is do we feel safe and protected now with all these thoughts and pictures in our head? Absolutely NOT!
This is a problem but the good news is, whilst we can learn to have a phobia in a millisecond, trigger it without thinking and generalise it to other things we can do the reverse easily. That is ~ learn how not to react in the old way, in fact act in the way you want, trigger it that way without thinking when to and generalise this new, desired way into other areas of your life.
Brian created her phobia really young, about 2 years old, when a dog tried to bite her face. It didn’t but the fear and the need for protection was learnt there and then. The thing is – are all dogs the same? Would all her life experiences of being okay between now and then be a better resource than the fear and panic created by seeing a dog, way over there?
Of course all dogs are not like that one and of course our whole set of life experiences would be a better resource and that’s what we did when we worked together, I’ll explain a little more in a minute.
Because this also reminded of one of my first clients, she had a phobia of spiders (notice the use of the word ‘had‘). She was convinced she first experienced this about 7 when she was chased by someone with a spider at school. Not sure what the spider was trying to learn at school? Anyway, with skillful questioning and empathy (well I am writing this and you weren’t there) we discovered this wasn’t the start of this phobia it actually occurred when she was about 3 and seeing her big, lovable Grandad coming down stairs as white as a sheet so scared because he had seen a spider. Her unconscious mind thought if my big lovable Grandad is scared of spiders then I have to be too!
So are these people still afraid are they living their life constantly thinking about what scares them?
You can guess the answer ~ of course they’re not, no way.
We’ve developed through hypnosis and NLP together with Time Line therapy (tm) Oh! I nearly forgot with ‘skillfull questioning and empathy‘ brilliant ways to let go of fears and phobias and, I know it may seem hard to believe, with a lot of laughter. Who says it’s a rule we have to be serious about creating great changes without a bit of fun and feeling good as you do it?
The thing is, when we let go of anything that holds us back we can use what we learn to pleasantly affect other areas of our life. We become more confident, at ease some may say be the real me and it never amazes me how far the ripples of our clients change spread because we know it will.
You are allowed to have the life you dream of.
Paul
