A little while ago, through my personal development podcast, I decided to give a brief insight of what to expect or look for when considering hypnotherapy – well from my point of view, which is all I can give. I wanted people to know that whatever your issues, Hypnosis, NLP and Time Line Therapy(TM) can usually help and with such a great effect. No one should put up with not feeling how they want to feel  and so few know what’s really available from the wealth of good hypnotherapists around.

For some, you may be considering going to a hypnotherapist. Well, I thought you may want to have a heads up on to what to look for. These are only my thoughts and opinions so they are obviously based on what I have experienced or learnt along the way and I know there are other thoughts and opinions – I can only share you mine.

Most think of stopping smoking or weight loss when thinking of working with a hypnotherapist and in my experience these are the smaller percentages of client base. Anxiety, panic, depression, OCD, social phobia. PTSD, you fill in the blank etc are all emotional states and behaviours that part and parcel of what are helped overcome.

The most important thing to remember is – you’re NOT broken and do NOT need curing! There are so many great hypnotherapists around doing great work and helping people getting back on track. Go seek one out and make great changes to your life.

You deserve to create the life you wish for and getting a little help just makes that a little quicker.

We have literally worked it on hundreds of clients and this has helped us to offer it with a free back up session as we are that confident ! How Hypnotherapy can kick your new resolutions back into action!

So we are nearly at the end of January, 31 days into 2014 and I’m keen to find out how many of you that made a new years resolution are still going strong?

According to research, 9 days in is the average date that people will give up and return to their old life. In fact, three-quarters of 3,000 British adults surveyed admitted they were no longer confident they would stick to their promises for the rest of the month. Were you one of those people?

New Years resolutions are now 10 days old, how many of you have stuck to them and how many have already given in and resorted to the old you? I’m guessing a good percentage of everyone who made one has succumbed to temptation already! Hypnotherapy in Cambridge can help you!

Stoptober….. or StopForever with Cambridge Hypnotherapy to stop smoking

So once again Stoptober is here, and the government are trying to push helping smokers become a non smoker for 28 days. Although this is obviously a great initiative, I do find it flawed in many aspects!

Firstly, why stop for 28 days? Why not stop smoking FOREVER? If people stop smoking for 28 days they are apparently 5 times more likely to stop smoking permanantly. I would counter that with 100% of those who do stop forever, actually have stopped forever? Strange, eh 😉

The problem I have with setting a 28 day target, is that for many people they are instantly counting down to when they can have that lovely cigarette again, and that is all that goes around in their mind. Every day they get closer to that 28th day, their desire for it gets bigger and bigger. Similar to people who go on a crash diet for a holiday or a wedding, as soon as its over their gorge on takeaways and chocolate and snacks, as those ‘treats’ have recently been forbidden. When Christmas is coming, we all get more and more excited about it as the day nears, and unfortunately I do find Stoptober can create this sort of excitement about smoking again, not for everyone mind, but for a large portion of people that do it.

So what happens when you decide to be a non smoker forever? Well your aim has instantly shifted to remaining a non smoker, not to when you can smoke again. Every week here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy we receive numerous enquiries that seem to centre around a certain theme that is current in the news or media. When we watch or read about a particular situation in the news, or watch something happen in our favourite TV programme it be very easy to relate it to our own personal lives and allow it to stir up a wide range of emotions from regret, guilt, fear or even simply sadness or happiness.

We have decided to focus upon this and start to write a regular weekly blog on whatever we feel is a topical event, allowing all of you that read this to realise just how easy it can be to disconnect and not let it bother you anymore.

Whether it’s reading or hearing about sexual abuse cases that stir up old buried memories, watching TV characters on EastEnders battle with drink or drug addictions, certain storylines in Coronation Street dealing with domestic abuse both mental and physical,  OCD behaviours on programmes such as Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners, or even focusing on eating disorders such as obesity and anorexia on episodes of Supersize vs Superskinny, we will be writing about it!

Hypnotherapy v Counseling….. which to choose??

Recently I have had a client enquire into the differences between Hypnotherapy and Counseling. In their words they felt they “needed some feminine empathy right now from a female counselor” and it got me thinking about the differences between that and they way that we work.

As I am a 32 year old man, I have to hold my hands up and admit that when it comes to being a female counselor, the other therapist has got me beaten hands down there! Also being male, I think she’s pretty much got me beaten on the feminine empathy aspect too!

So what can I offer them that is different then? Well quite simply, a no nonsense, quick and long lasting change without all the fuss and talking that counseling can bring with it. Counseling can be very good at gaining an understanding as to why we do things by looking at our pasts and analyzing it. Sticking to your resolutions with Cambridge Hypnotherapy

So it’s February, and we’re now 5 weeks into the New Year. How many of you made a New Years Resolution such as stopping smoking, losing weight, finding a new job or even starting a new hobby? More importantly, how many of you stuck to it and are STILL doing it?

tips to stop smoking from Cambridge Hypnotherapy

Tips to help you stop smoking.

Whilst we know hypnosis and hypnotherapy claim a great success rate helping smokers to be non-smokers.

And

We, here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy, believe we have developed even better ways and processes using our experience of hypnosis and NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming) we also understand this is not for everyone. Although it is far easier with us than going cold turkey we thought we would give a few pointers for those wanting to do it by themselves.

First of all the main reason we lose our will power or resolve is because when we stop smoking without planning properly most smokers begin to try to behave just the same as before not utilising a different behaviour in it’s place.

Some start drinking more alcohol, others eat more or keep picking at food between meals and some just get lethargic and watch TV more.

The result of all this is more weight and sluggishness ending going back to the dreaded weed!

Why does this happen? It’s because we have acknowledged what smoking was doing for us, such as taking us away from stress or boredom.  If we don’t re[place smoking with a new set of behaviours that also deal with what smoking was doing for us them we are doomed to failure.

So if you want to try and stop by yourself here’s a few tips:

·                  Pick a date suitably in the future when you will stop.

·                  Think about when you smoke what is smoking doing for you and write them down

·                  Think about necan rightly w ways you can achieve the same thing for you and write  them down

·                  Make notes on what you can do that’s really different and that you can’t smoke at the same time and prepare to them.

·                  On the evening before the set day really concentrate on smoking and realise it’s just a silly behaviour and that you know far better ways. After your last smoke ceremoniously crush and throw away the packet.

·                  When you wake up have a nice shower and put on some nice, clean comfortable clothes.

·                  Give yourself credit and praise every hour for doing so well.

So you can go this way if you like, some do and get great results but a lot fail with all good intentions because the thing is it’s our unconscious mind that runs the smoking behaviour and changing consciously is very hard.
