Anxious or worried about hypnosis? don’t be with Cambridge Hypnotherapy

Tuesday, April 9th, 2013

Recently, we had a client come to us and they were so frightened of being, going into trance or hypnosis it even affected listening to a simple 10 minute hypnosis CD. It also affected their thoughts of how the therapy sessions would go and making all kinds of pictures in their head of being uncomfortable and not getting the changes they really want. This is not usual but not exceptional, we all have our own perception of hypnosis from films or stage shows etc and the thing is when done well in a therapeutic situation nothing can be further from the truth. Unfortunately it has to experienced to break this misconception. (By the way we do this really well and really quickly!)

Here’s the thing ~

I have been in trance all my life, that’s right all my life! And the thing is so have you! Every moment of the day we are is some form of trance and in some ways it’s our job to undo the trances you have been living which no longer serve you.

Technically we could call it getting back in rapport with a true self or being totally aligned and congruent.

It’s only when we notice how far out of alignment or out of rapport with ourselves do we notice it. How? Because it doesn’t feel good, it may feel that we’re not being ourselves (you may hear people actually saying things like that)

Sometimes it’s because it doesn’t feel good we can be scared of hypnosis or hypnotherapy because we think of hypnosis as being zonked out, out of control or something else which is so far from the truth. It’s because we live in trance(s) every moment we forget we can control the trance we live in. That’s where can come in and help you enjoy changing the way you feel to how you want to feel in a given context or how to change a belief that you may had for most of your life that really no longer supports you.  You heard it right ENJOY CHANGING.

You see we know if you’re in a good state you can change your world instantly and with seemingly little effort ~ it’s not magic but it can be magical. This is not the case with all therapies but it is the way we have developed our way, our philosophy or our particular niche and it just seems to work.

All change and behaviour is unconscious so the only real way of changing the way you feel or behave/act/your habits is using your unconscious mind. Hey that’s using hypnosis or NLP or time line therapy™! ~~~~ Hey that’s what we do.

If you want to find out how we do what we do and help  clients get what they want in around 2-3 sessions here’s what to do:

Sticking to your resolutions with Cambridge Hypnotherapy

Thursday, February 7th, 2013

So it’s February, and we’re now 5 weeks into the New Year. How many of you made a New Years Resolution such as stopping smoking, losing weight, finding a new job or even starting a new hobby? More importantly, how many of you stuck to it and are STILL doing it?

Over the past few weeks we have seen a rise in enquiries from clients who have fallen by the wayside with their resolutions and reverted back to their old unwanted behaviour and are now realizing that they need a little outside help.

That’s where we at Cambridge Hypnotherapy come in. We can help change your relationship with food so that you start to lose weight without even noticing just how easy it has been. We can change your mindset when it comes to alcohol so that when you’ve finished that long stressful day you no longer automatically reach for that bottle of wine or can of beer without realizing it. Maybe you need to tap into your inner motivation and strength so that you can start to be more productive in looking for your new career path, or maybe you need that extra willpower to make it the easiest thing possible to just say no that cigarette.

Quite simply, whatever it is that you wish to change and achieve in your life, we can help you do it in ONLY 2-3 sessions…. Yep that’s right, not 12-15 sessions like lots of other therapies or therapists but only 2-3!!!

If you would like to find out more about just how easy it can be for you, you simply need to contact us here or call us on 01223 720 120.

Every journey starts with that first step… take it NOW!

Who can and can’t be hypnotised?

Wednesday, November 7th, 2012

Recently I had an interesting conversation with someone that got me thinking “I wonder who else feels this way?”

On a night out last week, I was introduced to somebody as a ‘hypnotist’. This usually gets a common covering of the eyes gesture, or them comically looking away so as to prevent eye contact with the whole ‘look into my eyes not around the eyes” lines. However this time it was slightly different, in the sense that the individual I met was a huge psychology fan, who took it upon himself to challenge everything that I believe. Now I don’t mind this, as everyone has a right to their own beliefs, and sometimes we do need to step into other peoples worlds in order to understand where they are coming from.

This individual was adamant that hypnosis involved huge amounts of layers that need to be stripped away, and that a deep level of unconsciousness would be needed in order to implant the desired suggestions which only very few people would be capable of. I found this highly interesting and decided to put across my beliefs, that I thought I would like to share with you all.

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness. It doesn’t involve sleep, and it certainly doesn’t involve giving the hypnotist entire control of everything that you do. In theory we have all been hypnotised every single day, just unaware of it as most people don’t know what hypnosis is. What about those times when you start driving, and before you know it your mind wanders off thinking about your tasks for the day, and all of a sudden you notice you have arrived at your destination? Or how about when you start reading a book, and you get 7 or 8 pages in and ask yourself “What have I just read?”. To me these are examples of the state of hypnosis that we all experience regularly, here our unconscious mind takes over and we go into an ‘auto-pilot’ state.

When I hypnotise someone in a session, they are still awake, they are still in control, and if I walked away leaving them like that and a fire alarm went off they would run for the door as quick as anyone else would. Hypnotherapy is a do with process, and involves me working with the clients unconscious mind to achieve their results, whether its losing weight, stopping smoking, letting go of a phobia, or releasing anxiety.

To sum it up, I believe that EVERYONE can be hypnotised, however they can only be hypnotised to do something that want to do, when they want to do it. I can’t MAKE them feel more confident, but i can help part of their mind to understand that they are worthy of everything that they want, and to love who they are.

Becoming a Hypnotherapist in Cambridge

Tuesday, September 11th, 2012

Quite often I am asked how I became a Hypnotherapist and how I started working here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy so I thought I’d share with you my journey here.

My background has always been a very sporty one, starting with playing football up to County standard at the age of 16. I then went on to 6th Form College where I studied Physical Education and Psychology, both of which had a module in Sports Psychology within them, and this is what set me on the way to realise just how powerful the mind can be. Leaving College I trained to work in the Fitness Industry and gained a Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training and went on to work in some of the best gyms in Cambridge. Here it became even clearer to me just how important the mind was when it came to achieving goals, for example, why was it that some people needed a personal trainer yet others could push themselves, or why was everyone so mad keen to get fit and January and the Summer but not in March or October. I worked my way up to Gym Manager and suddenly realised that there was no real job satisfaction for me anymore, and that I wanted to do something else, but the question was… what?

My Father had trained and worked as a hypnotherapist in Cambridge for many years prior to this, and had also introduced my younger brother Joseph into the field where he had also become a fully qualified Hypnotherapist, and they had both also travelled abroad to train to become trainers themselves, meaning they were now qualified to run courses and certify people to become therapists. As it happened, they even had a course coming up at about this time when I knew I wanted to do something different, so I thought why not see what it entails!

After successfully finishing the course, I was now a fully qualified Master Hypnotist, a Practitioner of Time Line Therapy, and a Practitioner of NLP and started working immediately with clients to help them reach their goals at Cambridge Hypnotherapy with my brother and father. Not content with just using the techniques that I now knew, I wanted to further and add to my skill set so also successfully completed the Master Practitioner course. This gave me everything I feel I needed to know to help clients achieve anything they asked for, such as letting go of depression, becoming more confident, losing weight, stopping smoking, or letting go of intense phobias.

6 years on I am still loving what I do, and every day I am glad I took the plunge from the safe yet mundane career with a regular pay cheque each month, into the diverse job I now do, and am very proud to be able to say that I am a full time Hypnotherapist in Cambridge.

‘Jon Richardson: A little bit OCD’ – Channel 4

Friday, August 3rd, 2012

Recently I watched ‘Jon Richardson: A Little Bit OCD’ on Channel 4, you may have seen it yourself. Seeing what Jon and the others he met on the show went through on a day-to-day basis was not surprising to me though as we regularly work with clients to help them let go do their OCD here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy.

One aspect of the show I found really shocking though, and that was when Jon visited a Mental Health Hospital where they went through their ‘desensitisation system’. This involved touching toilet door handles, wiping your hands all over your clothes and head, and even licking your hands. This followed with wiping your hands on a toilet seat itself, and then rubbing your hands all over clothes and body!! Now I don’t have OCD but the thought of doing that fills even me, as I’m sure it would you, with horrible feelings. Imagine how traumatic it would be if you were petrified of germs etc!!! The idea behind this way of working is as the name suggests, it in theory desensitises that person to that experience, however the problem can be that instead of doing this, it just sends the client into a huge state of panic and actually reinforces the fear/OCD reactions making them worse than they started. Nice!

At Cambridge Hypnotherapy we regularly work with clients with OCD and get fantastic results, and in a much more relaxed and comfortable way of changing. Using advanced levels of NLP we can start to reprogram what certain information (door handles, light switches etc) mean so that the clients mind processes this stimulus in a completely different way, which in turn produces a completely different reaction or behaviour. We can the use TimeLine Therapy to start to let go of the emotion that they experience, whether its fear or anxiety etc. With hypnosis we can also then start to tap into every resource that they have from confidence, relaxation, strength of mind and willpower etc and associate these attributes to the certain event/experience that caused the old unwanted reactions. It’s that SIMPLE and COMFORTABLE!

You are what you believe you are………

Thursday, June 14th, 2012

Here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy, the majority of our clients are here to work on a confidence related issue, be it socially, personally, or even professionally.

To start with, lets look at what confidence is. How do we measure it? How can we gauge how confident someone is already? Quite simply, we can’t. Confidence in itself is not something that we can measure per say, as it is a feeling or a way of being dependant upon certain self beliefs. Take Sir Alan Sugar for example, he is someone who we perceive to be extremely confident. When he goes into a business meeting he is going in with the belief that he is fantastic at business. He can look back at all of his past successes and believe throughout every single part of his mind and body that he can achieve whatever he sets his mind too and that portrays itself in his persona and demeanour. We can compare this with the opposite character, someone who has been made bankrupt 3 times and a history of failures behind him. He will be going into his next meeting thinking “what if they bring up my old failings, what if they see that I’m a failure?” and in turn appear lacking in confidence, withdrawn and quiet.

So why is this? When we remember times that we have failed at something it naturally brings back a range of negative emotions such as regret, sadness, guilt, rejection and even fear. Our minds main job is to protect us, and it would much rather prevent us from making these same mistakes again than ever risk us feeling so low, and in order to do this, it gives us this sense of anxiety and fear as a fight or flight mechanism, either to keep us on our toes so that we can succeed or exceeding the rational level of anxiety so that it gets us away from the event in question.

In order to change this, we use techniques form within NLP to reframe what your mind believes about certain things, and start to reprogram it so that it functions in a different way, maybe by focusing on all of our successes and using all those same skills and resources. We also use Hypnosis to allow your mind to learn all of the learnings from your past that you can use to this day so that you can live free form those old restraints.

Typically it takes only 2-3 sessions to help clients start to live their life as the confident person that they desire to be, many even get their results sooner than this.

Spring clean your mind with Hypnotherapy in Cambridge

Monday, February 20th, 2012

What would it be like to spring clean your mind?
We all get he need to spring clean our house, desk, office or some other space that just gets so cluttered after time.
What would you say if I said that spring cleaning your mind is one of the easiest things we can do for ourselves.
Think about it for a moment…….. We defrag our computers once and a while and they   to run better. When we do clean up and throw away the stuff we’ve accumulated over time or if it’s special put in a place where we can either admire it or use it.
So………
How do you think you feel if you did the same with your mind and your memories.
let’s take that one at a time
Our mind
Being clear headed with no negative emotions running around to derail us or take us of course or lead us into procrastination. Wow!!!!
How would that feel and what things would you be able to start, do and finish??
And what about those memories…?
I am talking about those that, when we think of them or something reminds of them we get to feel either anxious, sad or angry. If we were able to change those so they didn’t bother us, became neutral how good would that be??
Well the good news is that all the above is possible in probably 2 sessions with us here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy.
How…?
Well that’s our little secret. But using our specially developed ways of using hypnosis, NLP and time line therapy(tm) we have found ways to spring clean our minds and have a better future. To enjoy life.

when Grief causes anxiety ~ Hypnotherapy in Cambridge

Saturday, January 14th, 2012

I know Luke will soon writing of two amazing successes he received feed back from last week. Both to do with Fears and Phobias but with totally different and startling results.

I’d like to tell of a client I saw last week too, which at the consultation the main issue was anxiety around driving (which is so so easy to change by the way).

This changed however when we began the session ~ was anxiety around driving the cause of this clients issue, they thought it was when they came but we soon discovered this was simply an effect of the real issue which when it came to light was that they were still suffering from  grief together with an un-supporting belief to boot.

Did I panic because I had only prepared for a driving session ~ absolutely not because I hadn’t prepared in that way. We here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy never assume any issue is the real issue until we are sure because as a general rule it isn’t. That’s why so many others (therapists) fail to help their clients quickly and comfortably which I think is a disservice to our clients. All of us here (Luke, Joseph and myself) are committed to brief therapy (the fewest amount of sessions) and complete and lasting change.

Anyway back to my client. Once we, well the client really discovered the real cause of their anxiety (they understood and new now that this was the real problem that needed being dealt with) we did deal with it quickly and with no tears. Well no tears until we had finished but they were tears of joy because they now had a set of wonderful memories and a loving connection with that person they had been grieving for, grieving for far to long and now they felt like a whole weight had been lifted from their shoulders. That really does make this job a brilliant one.

One session that’s all it took to get that kind of freedom.

Your problems could disappear that quickly too why not call 01223 720 120 or email us by clicking here

Successful New Year’s Resolutions with Hypnotherapy in Cambridge.

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

We have all made New Year’s Resolutions only to find them disappearing within a day or two from our minds.

Why is that?

One reason is that we all have a little baggage, some emotions like anger, sadness or guilt that seems to be around just when we don’t want it or lie in the background like a shadow. It’s these things that if we don’t let them go we will never get what we want and the thing is we deserve to have all the things we dream of having and experiencing ~ Well that’s our belief.

There used to be a belief in therapy that to let things go, change our negative beliefs takes a long long time, over many sessions. In fact we still see this on some therapists websites saying “10-12 sessions usually required”!!!!!!! (they’re our !!!!!!!! marks!!!)

The thing is that’s not the way we see it here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy we rarely see anybody more than three sessions before we get their results.

So with this in mind why would you want to wait to change the way you feel now to how you want to feel. You wouldn’t and couldn’t if you really want to be the way you want to be. And that’s the key really wanting (and you don’t have to know how because we know the how)

And here’s another and

AND………………

it costs you nothing to find out if we’re right for you

all you have to do is contact us and arrange a Complimentary Consultation ~ 20 minutes to how we can help you and get a complimentary Hypnosis cd and 2 hypnosis downloads too! and (yes another and) they’ll be no pressure from us because it’s always your choice.

If you want you can call and speak with us personally on 01223 720 120

Cambridge Hypnotherapy ~ Advice How to get real results

Friday, December 16th, 2011

This is sort of a clients experience and it’s an experience that we here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy look out for and listen for.

It’s a time when we help our clients not to be clients until they are ready.

You see Hypnotherapy, especially the way we have developed it is extremely powerful at getting the results you want. And that’s the thing we listen for is it what you want and need. For many it’s just the right thing to change from what you’re feeling to how you want to feel in as little as 2-3 sessions with us.

But

And here is the but:

What if you don’t want to stop smoking but your partner wants you to stop?

What if you bite your nails and your family, not you, want you to stop it?

For some therapists you would be booked into a session with what measure of success? Well probably none and we’ll explain that later.

With us you come along to an initial consultation and we explain how we work and use this time to find out if it’s you who want to change. Because it’s so important to your success in changing if you want to stop and change ~ really important!

If we notice that you are here under someone else’s wishes we will not work with you, you don’t have a problem and you will waste your time and money and we will not let that happen. We will give you a complimentary hypnosis CD and when and if you change your mind and you want to change you then we will book you in to a session ~ only then though.

So you can rest assured when you do visit us we have only your best interests at heart and when you understand that you know you are in the right place at the right time with the right person that can help.

And when you do get the results you want we get to share in your pleasure of being the one who did it (with a little help from us)
