Changing the way you remember with Cambridge Hypnotherapy

We love to share our clients successes and their concerns. If we can help you see and feel the benefits of changing the way you feel to a way that you want feel and know how quick and easy it can be then it makes our job with you easier and quicker.

Here’s something that we think will give you the confidence to ask us how we can help you and knowing that we can……help you.

Last week I worked with another wonderful client. From the initial consultation she said she wanted to forget someone from her past – completely. No memory of that person, as if they never existed.

So let’s rewind to the initial consultation and this request. Could I or indeed anyone make a person disappear from your memories or past? I actually feel it probably is possible but this is where my training and some may call it code of ethics or simply best practise; because you see just because something may be possible doesn’t make it right when you consider the implications, the effects.

You see, consider if we did this together what would people think of my client when she denied ever having been with this person? What would my client be saying to herself when they saw photographs of the two of them together? You’re mad or “am I going mad?”

Even more important to me and the way I work is if we learn from every experience we won’t make the same mistake again. Imagine this client meeting the same type of person again and again and being totally unfulfilled. Oh…….. Isn’t that what some people actually do and you hear them saying “ I just don’t seem to meet someone different and end up with same old same old!” what an outlook to have!!

So……….although this client was continuing to question their want to have this person disappear from their memories I stood fast and continued to explain and reframe the need to learn from our experiences and that in some way that person taught us something valuable, only valuable however, if we choose to learn and use those learnings in the future.

So what happened??????

One session, yes in only one session this client did a fantastic job of working with me and let go of all those negative feelings. Feeling different in the therapy office/room is one thing but to have the changes in the real world outside is the only real test to know the work we have done together has really worked. So one week later having really gone out and tested our work, their work really as they have to do all the work, 100% result and usually happens other areas of their life had begun to get better too. A double/triple whammie (however you spell that??)

How long to let go of bad emotions ~Cambridge Hypnotherapy

Clearing negative emotions with NLP, Time Line Therapy(TM) and Hypnosis

I am continually amazed how long we (that’s all of us) can hold onto old negative emotions. Hold on to them even when we think they’re gone. How do I know this? I’ll tell you in a minute.

The thing is these negative emotions continue to affect our quality of life and the decisions we make. Like a snow ball, they start of very small and as life rolls on they get bigger and bigger and for some then it’s just overwhelm.

So how do I know this? Time Line Therapy™ that’s how. Now this probably makes no sense to you at all, unless you know about TLT.

So let’s make a little sense out of this. When working with a client who is suffering from anxiety, which is really fear of what has happened in the past will repeat in the future, we may use Time Line Therapy ™ processes.

A typical session would also include dealing with anger and sadness and although nearly every clients says well I’m not really an angry or sad person, when we look a little deeper we find memories from years ago that still hold those emotions. Because the processes work so quickly, normally around 5-10 minutes for each emotion, we can really clear the entire unconscious blocks that were all part of the problem and different processes may not so cleanly achieve. That’s what and why I like Time Line Therapy™, it’s thorough, quick and my clients are always comfortable in the change process.

Just so you know why they remain comfortable ~ it’s because my clients never go to any negatively charged memory and relive it. I know some therapist have the client do this but I don’t agree with this and I won’t let my clients be anything other than comfortable when making changes. In fact all of here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy we all have the same philosophy to make change, whatever or however bad the initial feelings our clients are experiencing it isn’t necessary to feel bad when we let them go and we won’t let our clients re-experience what caused the problem, we know too many better ways to work with clients.

Here’s a little tester:

Think of a specific memory of anger that when you think of it you can rate that anger out of 10. 10 being totally angry and 0 being completely neutral.

Have you done that? If you have and it’s not a 0 then you’re carrying around anger and it will affect what and how you act or react to greater or lesser degrees. If you notice how long ago that memory was and it may be years then it is probably time to let it go.

Little steps to a full life of achievement

We’ve noticed lately that so many people when trying to either reach a goal or make changes in their life, with the best of intentions, go about it in a way that almost always ends up in failure!

What a great shame when we see what we want in life, read about it and dream of having it only to be another “I wish” or even worse “If only I’d persisted a little more”

There’s a sure fire way to stop this happening and it’s the same process we teach my clients here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy when they leave to really test our work together.

Before we get to this small but powerful and successful way let’s just take a moment to set the scene for both scenarios.

Achieving your goals ~ We are told in many books and such things as the Law of Attraction etc. to set our goals big and I mean BIG! And I agree whole heartily in this too. We live in our ‘adult Heads’ all day and are prepared to settle for something less than we deserve.

However, if we were to adopt a child’s imagination where anything and everything is possible we dream both Big and also with total freedom and acceptance -That’s the real magic of a dream!! When we do this we can literally feel what it will be like to achieve the dream that’s now a goal.

We can then, if we know the steps, can now work backwards, That’s right backwards, and work out what needs to happen just before achieving our goal and then the step before that and then the step before that and then….. well you get the picture.

But if we don’t know the steps does that mean the goal is unachievable? ~ absolutely

~ NOT!

But so many think so, which means they don’t even begin or think of the largest first step and get scared or have a feeling of failure and give up, re-enforcing their old negative beliefs around failure and not being good enough and any other number of limiting negative beliefs you can think of now.

Testing our change work ~ We’ve noticed and been told of great change work being done in the office but in testing in the real world the client either picked a test way too big for a first test or got so anxious of the same sort of extreme thing to do they just gave up and again reinforced their previous old belief that was so nearly a thing of the past and just needed a gentle push away.

The PROCESS ~

In the paragraph above a mentioned ‘just a gentle push away’ and that’s the essence of the process. Being GENTLE with ourselves.

In both achieving our goals, which we now will call outcomes, and ratifying consciously the great changes you made in a therapy session the process is exactly the same and it is sooooooooo simple!!

In imagining the biggest outcome we desire we get to know what that will feel like when we get it – so simply hold that feeling.

Following our session my clients know what the feeling is they will have to succeed being their true selves so they are simple asked to remember and hold that feeling.

Then………

As you think of what to do, either towards your outcome or test of the change work, you simply hold that feeling and think or ask yourself for the smallest step towards the outcome you can make and still have this feeling and then just do it.

If you think of a step and that feeling is less intense or disappears it just means the step is too big, that’s all! So simply return to that feeling you will feel and think or ask for a smaller step that still retains that feeling for you and do that instead.

You will notice at first the steps will be minute and that’s absolutely correct but the thing is you will soon be leaping forward and always with that feeling which will lead you to your outcome and more.

Hypnotherapy for confidence with Cambridge Hypnotherapy

Apparently there’s a program on television these days called the X Factor, and this weekend they documented how one of the contestants had used hypnotherapy to deal with confidence issues. This contestant had had issues with her nerves and anxiety levels which had even led her to forgetting the words to her songs on more than one occasion. She was also only 16, and I’d imagine singing in front of the nation on television at such a young age would be difficult enough for any 16 year old, let alone one who had  experiences of forgetting her words before.

She ended up having 3 hypnotherapy for confidence sessions overall, which is in the majority of cases here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy all we work with our clients for. In fact, during September and October not one of our clients attended for more than 3 sessions, and only one client has come for more than 3 sessions in November. It really is that quick and simple to change! Sure, it can take longer when working in a way that complicates things for the sake of complication it seems, but it doesn’t need to.

Christmas time is meant to be a time to relax, to withdraw from the stresses of work and spend fun time with the family. Well in theory that’s what’s meant to happen anyway! Stoptober….. or StopForever with Cambridge Hypnotherapy to stop smoking

So once again Stoptober is here, and the government are trying to push helping smokers become a non smoker for 28 days. Although this is obviously a great initiative, I do find it flawed in many aspects!

Firstly, why stop for 28 days? Why not stop smoking FOREVER? If people stop smoking for 28 days they are apparently 5 times more likely to stop smoking permanantly. I would counter that with 100% of those who do stop forever, actually have stopped forever? Strange, eh 😉

The problem I have with setting a 28 day target, is that for many people they are instantly counting down to when they can have that lovely cigarette again, and that is all that goes around in their mind. Every day they get closer to that 28th day, their desire for it gets bigger and bigger. Similar to people who go on a crash diet for a holiday or a wedding, as soon as its over their gorge on takeaways and chocolate and snacks, as those ‘treats’ have recently been forbidden. When Christmas is coming, we all get more and more excited about it as the day nears, and unfortunately I do find Stoptober can create this sort of excitement about smoking again, not for everyone mind, but for a large portion of people that do it.

So what happens when you decide to be a non smoker forever? Well your aim has instantly shifted to remaining a non smoker, not to when you can smoke again. I’ve now been a Hypnotherapist in Cambridge for over 6 years. My background has always been Sport and Psychology, going all the way back to when I was at College and studied the 2 subjects at A-Level. Luckily, with the P.E syllabus there was a section on Sports Psychology, and also within the Psychology Syllabus there was a section on Sports Psychology.

Having left College, I decided to train and become qualified as a Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer having trained in a gym from the age of 16. I became fascinated with how some people could motivate themselves to train on their own, yet others needed someone else to push them. There is also the strange way that people can be very motivated to train on January, yet come April they rarely visit  the gym at all!

The only problem I had with working a gym was job satisfaction. Yes I was helping people become fitter, but I personally was not overly enjoying going to work every day and knew something needed to change.

As it happened my brother and father were about to run a Practitioner course, training people to become a qualified practitioner of NLP, TimeLine Therapy and Hypnosis so I jumped at the chance of enrolling and taking part. Something just clicked during the course, and I realised that this was something that would allow me to help others in a much more satisfying way.

In the following days after successfully completing the course, I saw my first client at Cambridge Hypnotherapy, and have been a full time Hypnotherapist in Cambridge ever since.

Cambridge Hypnotherapy tips to feel better

I have just been asked to give a few quick tips on ways to carry on the great work one of our clients has made so I thought this would be great to share as they can be used by anyone ~ you don’t need to have been a client.

Use your count down timer on your mobile set to one hour and repeat this throughout the day. When it beeps, stop and notice how you feel right now and then make yourself feel just a little better. Little is the main thing ~ just a little better; you’ll find that easy I know. Just remember to turn it off before bed time!!!???

Whenever you catch yourself asking things like “Why do I……, Why can’t I……..? etc. etc” STOP and ask a better question like:

What would be like to feel X or do X (you choose which is appropriate) and enjoy the process of feeling X or doing X ?”  

and then just let that happen you don’t need to think of the answer.

 

Lastly ( for now anyway)

Before you get up , think of your day ahead and imagine how you want it to be if it were to be exactly how you want it to be. Do this for a few minutes. Then ask yourself this question:

What would it be like to have this day just like this or something even better and enjoy every minute of it?

 Then get up without thinking of an answer because your unconscious mind will create it for you.

 

Repeat the mantra

(Your name) comes first ~ number one

Try them out.

These are things everyone can do and remember if you do have issues that are holding you back from enjoying this life of yours you owe it to yourself to let them go and create the change inside of you to have the life you want and dream of. Amazing results ~ Hypnotherapy for young adults ~ the real Cambridge Hypnotherapy

Something special happening at Cambridge Hypnotherapy

Lately I have been overwhelmed, in a good way, in having the opportunity to work with young people, young adults that is. With that I mean 19 – 21 year olds, wanting to get theirself together and doing something about it. It seems to me that it must take a lot of courage to get in touch with a Hypnotherapist, someone that does an ‘ism ~ Hypnotism and then be prepared to do whatever it takes to be the way they want to be!

It’s been really encouraging to watch these young people make great changes in their lives and take responsibility for it themselves, no blaming others or circumstances, and doing things for themselves.

You see, we all see a lot of people in the world blaming their situation on anything or everything but themselves ~ The economic situation, the government, the weather, other people, their bosses, the anything you can think of except themselves. It’s simply the law of cause and effect and if you live on the effect side of life you have and can find any amount of reasons why you can’t do or have something or in other words ~ Excuses, because that’s what they are.

When you live on the cause side of life and take full responsibility for you life you can do anything and change things the way you want them to be, simply because you can!!!

That’s the great thing about watching these young people have the courage and conviction to want to be the best they can be and settle for nothing less. They just didn’t realise they had all they need inside them and just needed our special processes to guide them to access those resources and make those changes. And because they were prepared to do whatever it takes it meant they were able to make the changes they wanted quickly and easily ~ mostly within one or two sessions. The funny thing was, because it was obvious to us that they couldn’t afford to pay our full price, we had to offer them concessionary rates. They didn’t ask for them and didn’t know about them until it came for payment of the session which made it even more rewarding giving them.
