Effective weight loss vs The Hypnoband

A few weeks ago I had a phone call from a potential client wanting to book sessions for our hypnoband approach for weight loss. The obviously hadn’t ready my blog post here! They were completely surprised when I said I didn’t perform hypnoband sessions, and that personally I didn’t like it or believe in its effectiveness. Please don’t take this to mean that no-one will ever change as a result of it, as some people will. However, the percentage of positive LONG TERM results would be minimal in my opinion.

I’m not going to go over it all again as you can read my thoughts in the blog post above, but here are a few summarised points:

  • Is the client going to BELIEVE they have just had surgery with no scar…. NO
  • Are you letting go go emotional eating… NO
  • Does having a real gastric band fitted guarantee losing weight…. NO
  • Will a gastric band change my desire to exercise…NO
  • Is it any good at all…. NO (obviously only my opinion)

After raising just a few of these points to the enquirer, they quickly booked in for an initial consultation to discuss my approach to weight loss that means no conscious dieting, no real effort and a simple approach to achieve long term results. As it turned out, she had actually worked in clinics offering the real gastric band and had been against them but believed her original thoughts to be the only way to change!

After the first session, one week later, she had lost 4lbs and not had to actively go out and do anything differently. She had naturally found herself saying no to certain foods in certain situations, and had even been motivated to actually join a gym and have her induction already under her belt!

After the second session, only 2 weeks after starting , she was 7 lbs down. The most shocking thing to there was how easy it had been. She imagined having to eradicate every type of food she liked, count calories and try and lump foods into certain point schemes to work out what she could eat! how much grief and effort would that have been!

So what’s stopping you from easily losing weight? Why not contact me here, or call me on 01223 720 120 find out more about being the slimmer you that so far you’ve have only imagined and dreamed of being!

Performance Anxiety

Performance Anxiety and how it affects us.

Where do we start with performance anxiety! This area is so big and covers so many different issues. Here is a list of a few:

  • Exam performance
  • Sporting performance
  • Interview performance
  • Speaking to groups
  • Artistic performance (singing, acting etc)
  • ?
  • ?
  • ?

The questions marks are for your issue that I haven’t mentioned. In each and every one of the examples above the only thing stopping that person from performing the way that they want to is their perception of what that event means. We could take a mock exam paper home and sit quietly at a table and no doubt answer questions calmly and get the score we deserve. However when put in an exam situation, a great big hall where you are not allowed to talk, surrounded by 50 other nervous individuals we start to read too much into it. There is now also something riding on our results. They mean something compared to a mock exam where it doesn’t matter if we fail… but you didn’t… you passed it… why should this be any different?

Or then there is sporting events. I have worked with professional sportsmen and women from footballers to golfers to snooker players. One of the snooker players I worked with was an amateur who had already achieved one of the highest breaks ever at 151 (possible as his opponent had fouled). He had all the talent and skill and was winning his amateur competitions with ease. However when it came to the tournaments where he could win his pro card it was a different scenario. He was rarely winning and actually losing to people he’d previously never lost to. When asked why, he said he kept thinking about how if he lost then his chance would be gone, where as there was nothing riding on his amateur matches apart from some small prize money.

These really highlight how our levels of anxiety can actually be working against the very thing it is trying to achieve. Anxiety is there to protect us and to help us perform our best, and to a degree this works. The issue is when this anxiety goes above the optimal level and our performance starts to drop. See the graph below to demonstrate this.

Think about your life. What would you do better, more efficiently and more enjoyably if you were remained relaxed and calm? We can help you. Anxiety is the number one thing we work with at Cambridge Hypnotherapy. Over 50% of our clients are here for some sort of anxiety issue. In only 2-3 sessions you too can be free just like they now are.

Can’t vs Won’t

What, or who, is stopping you?

How often do you look at something and say “I can’t do that”? More often than you’d care to admit would be my guess, am I right?

The old cliché is that there is no such word as can’t, to which I honestly believe has some truth to it. Obviously there are some things we can’t do… for instance I can’t run 100m in less than 10 secs (less than 30 secs may even be debatable these days!!!). No matter how much positive thinking I do, that will always remain something I can’t do.

But then there are those other things that we simply perceive we can’t do. For example:

“I can’t stop drinking once I’ve started…”

“I can’t leave food on the plate…”

“I can’t stop the anxiety from taking over me…”

“I can’t talk in front of groups of people without falling apart…”

Ultimately in every one of those examples above there is only one thing, or person for that matter, stopping them from being able to and that is the individuals themselves! To be even more to the point, each and every one of those statmements is in a excuse as to why someone isn’t living the way they want to. Who else is making them carry on drinking, or force feeding them food, or physically restraining them from talking to groups of people?

If we are in control of these limiting behaviours, why don’t we just change them and start behaving differently? I know it sounds too easy right? But, when you think about it, what is ACTUALLY stopping you? At Cambridge Hypnotherapy our aim is to remove those limiting beliefs easily and effortlessly. In typically no more than 3 sessions (many achieve their results in even less) you too could be regaining the unconscious controls and living your life exactly how you determine, not letting these little beliefs (excuses maybe?) get in the way.
